  • Site of the Day: 1940s New York

In 1943, four newspapers published a New York City Market Analysis, which offered a window into New York's neighborhoods of that era. The Analysis provides hundreds of photos and color-coded maps, statistics, and short narratives about neighborhoods across the city. The Center for Urban Research at the CUNY Graduate Center made the 1943 profiles available to provide context for the recently released 1940 Census records and to offer a research aid to historians and anyone else interested in learning more about New York from the 1940s.

This shows clearly that analysis of our mass demographics has been conducted for a very long time. Even then it was used to carefully guide the manipulation of mass consciousness.
