The Cyburbia Forums is the oldest and most active English language urban planning message board on the Internet, and one of the small number of online communities where members enjoy intelligent, troll-free discussion. Cyburbia has hundreds of active members, yet is a strong community full of creative, friendly, and occasionally offbeat planners, planning students, architects, urbanists and other like-minded people who care about and/or help shape the built environment. Cyburbia Forums members enjoy a sense of community and camaraderie that is unmatched by any planning-related web site or listserv. We'd love to have you join us as another Cyburbian.

Fill The 2009 Time Capsule

It's time to fill the 2009 Time Capsule. We need some suggestions for items to place in the capsule, to be buried in the CBD, Cyburbia, USA. Schedule it to be opened in 2109. Feel free to include your thoughts on how the items will be viewed, 100 years from now. I will begin the suggestion list.....

Hard copy of The Rocky Mountain News.
100 years from now those who open the capsule will be thrilled and more than a little perplexed that news and information was conveyed on paper.

8-Ball screw-on knob for a gear-shift lever.
Only those who have a unique and deep interest in "car culture" will understand this item in the capsule.

Digital Conversion Box.
Those who do determine what this box did will be saying and asking, "WTF? Huh? Why?"

Polar Bear stuffed animal.
"Why did they include this? My daughter has a polar bear stuffed animal. She has been studying extinct species."

K-Mart Credit Card
Comments will include references (not correct) to another long-gone retail company, Sear's Roebuck......and even a mention that somehow connects a paper catalog to outhouses.

A can of "highway white" lane pavement paint.
With technology that was invented 80 years earlier, the need for any visible lane markings has long disappeared.

HP computer mouse.
Tech geeks will immediately identify this item.
_____

What say you?
