The Cyburbia Forums is the oldest and most active English language urban planning message board on the Internet, and one of the small number of online communities where members enjoy intelligent, troll-free discussion. Cyburbia has hundreds of active members, yet is a strong community full of creative, friendly, and occasionally offbeat planners, planning students, architects, urbanists and other like-minded people who care about and/or help shape the built environment. Cyburbia Forums members enjoy a sense of community and camaraderie that is unmatched by any planning-related web site or listserv. We'd love to have you join us as another Cyburbian.

2010 Cyburbia Death Pool (Traditional Version)

Cyburbia Death Pool 2010
Traditional Version
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hear ye! Hear ye!

Step right up, boys and girls, step right up......we are proud to pry open, for the first time ever, that tasteless and fun "slam bam, git in the dirt, m'am" thread.....The Cyburbia Death Pool 2010 Edition, Traditional Version. Come on down, join the festivities!

We are absolutely positive that Calendar Year 2010 will bring us.....

Folks that die that we expected to die.
Folks that die that we did not expect to die.
Real surprise deaths.
Folks that didn't die and we expected them to die.
Folks that didn't die and we "wanted" them to die.

Note that there are tons of internet sites that offer recommendations for these excursions into Grim Reaper territory. Start doing your homework. Check those sites. Tune into pop programs that discuss the "serious" nature of so-and-so's cancer. Wipe off your crystal balls.

With a little more than a month and a half to go, the 2009 version is a bit of a Cyburbian Horse Race. The New Year will bring on the crowning of a new champion and those who participate in the 2010 Pool will be "off and running"......or, at the very least, carving some grave markers.

The Rules
This Bear will moderate, because nobody else seems to want this grave job. Not a problem if I do it again.....not a problem if somebody else jumps in and volunteers to moderate. Remember, as a moderator your responsibility is to provide scoring updates, periodically. The Death Pool Moderator will also provide a final call on any questionable death or situation. (Hardly ever happens!)

You are allowed 10 picks. You are also allowed to indicate in your posting that you have alternate picks if one of the choices on your 2009 list actually croaks in the last 30-some days of 2009. Strongly encourage folks to make their list but do not submit it until near the final bell. Makes it easier on the moderator.

This thread will close near-midnight on December 31, 2009. Early in 2010, another thread will creak open (like the casket in a scary movie). That will be the UPDATE thread. It will be the "catch-all" for 2010 deaths, comments about those deaths, and the periodic (usually every quarter) standings update.

Traditional Version
There was some discussion among regulars that the rules should be changed for the 2010 Pool. Suggestions included awarding points for younger age deaths, etc. Some different options were presented.

Strongly recommend that any one of those "change suggestors" start a second 2010 Pool, without the "Traditional" tag. This pool will remain as it was.
_____

Now get your shovels and start digging !!!

".....a tisket, a tasket......who's gonna be in the casket?....."
_____

Tick Tick Tick

The clock is ticking. Thanksgiving and December just around the corner. Remember to start researching your picks for the 2010 pool.

Tell us all how that rash is responding to treatment?

I'll make my picks next month after I make a few calls.

I can't believe you guys are picking Andy Rooney. I had him pegged for better than a decade, but he just kept rolling along. I gave up on him in the mid-90s.
