Cyburbian Plus membership: would you pay $10 a year?

(Posted outside of work hours using equipment and an Internet connection not owned by my employer.)

Since we started the Cyburbian Plus paid membership category a few years ago, the number of Cyburbian Plus members has dropped slowly, from a high of abut 60 to 23 today.

A Cyburbian Plus membership costs $20 a year. I'm considering dropping the fee to $10 a year, with existing Cyburbian Plus members having their status extended an extra year. If the membership fee is dropped, would you become a Plus member?

Since I just forked over $20 for another year today, I'd gladly take a year extension as my retroactive signing bonus.

I am happy to be a member and I would be happy to pay whatever. It is a "free" site to us, but I am glad to help cover a bit of the real cost to you. Maybe we should make the benefits great... I don't know like candy or something. Maybe a handshake?

When I get to return to work I will gladly pony up $10. This forum has been invaluable to me through the grad school application process, grad school, professional development and advice, and camaraderie it has provided over the years.

I would happily pay for Cyburbian Plus membership at $10 or $20 per year, but I don't have a paypal account and don't plan to open one. I've had two bad experiences with paypal and I don't trust their portal with my credit card or ATM card numbers. If you can come up with another secure way of taking payment, I'm in.

I just realized I am about 3 years behind in my dues! I say we set them at $10, or at least send us annoying e-mails like APA does when we are about to lapse... then keep sending them!

me too - had my PayPal broken into by some Italians a few years ago and it lost my most recent payment to Cyburbia

$20 remains OK for this Bear. For that incredibly low price I get significant on-line friendship, POV from different economic and political aspects, a fair amount of comedy that is occasionally decent, and a place to yack on about the story of De Noc (to an audience that somewhat understands and humors an old bruin).

If lowering the cost brings back members, go for it.

I just want to add a though or two;

I didn't join the original round due to unemployment however I feel fine paying $10 a year and here's why. My wife is a member of several photographer and graphic design forums that she pays upwards of 80-100 dollars a year. Granted, and this is no slight to Cyburbia, but those forums are more professionally geared (though they do have some form of a FAC) but it is for sharing ideas and products amongst each other. I'm not saying Cyburbia needs to be private pay only but to give you an idea of what $10 a year is compared to other forums there you go. Dan, the price should be $12 a year, a buck a month - cheaper than a cup of coffee.

What's so sketchy about paypal? I have sent and received money hundreds of times with no problems. I have even successfully got money back after a company didn't respond after payment was made, didn't even have to go through the credit card company?
