    Flash mob trouble

What kind of trouble would one get into if.... they were to organize a flashmob that turned a suburban stop sign intersection into a roundabout?

You would just need to tell people to....

    I'm pretty sure you mean:

I'll be your round about, the words will make you out 'n out...

Back OT, maybe you can use the roundup on 49 to your advantage: can you get the ranchers to let your friends/stakeholders put advertisements on the cattle?

you'd probably all get traffic tickets and worse if you all caused accidents and people got hurt
At times like this, you have to ask yourself, "WWJDD?"

The government don't do anything to the flash mobs who get together to loot stores and beat people, but a group of traffic nerds and/or hipsters are much less threatening so I'd imagine you'll end up getting a gravel bath and a hickory shampoo to keep everyone in line.

It has been done with the Better Block campaign and some guerilla wayfinding efforts. In you're in a neighborhood maybe start small with removing unnecessary Children at Play signs and other clutter? Convince people to park on the street and as far away from the curb as legally possible? Pavement narrowing, chokers etc would be easier since it is a small modification to the existing pattern, not a change to traffic operations like converting stops to roundabout. When you do big changes, you are taking on liability and can be practicing engineering without a license. Some of the cases of people building their own speed bumps have been convictions, up to manslaughter I think for the one where a guy crashed and died because of it.

Depends where you are. I've seen Critical Mass shut down streets in Several Cities. Now they get police escorts to keep them safe.

I suggest you pick the right music.

I'll say this though, I've seen three Flash Mobs in my life and all three times they left me feeling incredibly pissed off. It's funny on TV. But when you're running late and 300 people decide to spread cheer through mediocre (at best) dancing, especially in an intersection...be prepared to have things thrown at you guys. Film so I can laugh.

Perhaps, along the same line of reasoning....

You would probably be much better off having your flash mob carry signs without getting in the way of traffic. The key would be how and when to tip off the media.

Article today on Streetsblog NYC on some action: http://www.streetsblog.org/2012/07/1...bergen-street/
It references this Indiana criminal mischief conviction in 2008 for painting a crosswalk: http://www.streetsblog.org/2008/02/0...n-a-crosswalk/

Pretty aggressive resident upgrades here, complete with wah-wah City response. Nice curb extensions, I would like to see pics of their other installations.

    Flashmob troubles ...

Which kind of flashmob are we talking about here? The fancy-dance sort, or the "wilding" sort?

The criminal "wilding" versions have gotten rather brazen in Chicago. The big city has often had problems at large events like the Fourth (i.e. 3rd) of July fireworks show on the lakefront, or, say, a Democratic convention. So it's not totally surprising. Videos of these seem to be all over the place now,

But I was surprised to find how wide-spread the phenomenon is. I've noticed they are occurring in smaller cities as well.

Now this guy is likely the prototypical local nutbar and the crosswalk is silly, but it is an excellent example of an uncrossable STROAD design.

Edit: Update to my link on May 17, I can't find it now but I saw an article saying the City of Hamilton had given in and would be building official versions of some of the traffic calming devices.
