Five Things Tuesday

As I've mentioned before, I really like the '10 Things Thursday' thread. It occurs to me, however, that some may be daunted by the length/number of response required and because the thread falls so near to the end of the work week there isn't that much time for circulation/response.

It might be nice to start a '5 Things Tuesday as a sort of '10 Things Lite' alternative. Let's keep '10 Things Thursday' going, but I offer this thread as an expedient early-in-the-week supplement.


1. I would like to watch an episode of Hee Haw. It's been quite a while and I can't believe the show was as stupid as I remember...
2. I will be glad when November 7 rolls around
3. I just got done re-reading "The Mouse that Roared'. What great satire!
4. Tonight I will take the Cub Scouts to the Fire Station
5. The price of fresh cider is going for $8-9 per gallon

I dare you to tell her Christmas and Easter... and May Day along with some others, are pagan. In fact, Halloween has more roots in Christianity, as it derived from All Hallow's Eve, the night before All Saints Day, which is Catholic. Now, the date might have been moved by a few weeks to coincide with Samhain, a Celtic celebration, but it's debatable.

Bet you didn't want to know all that, huh?

5. My wife got some bonus money from her (deceased) mother’s insurance policy. She died 11 years ago, so the interest alone is sizable. Gonna pay for some interior house painting. Yeah, we know how to party….

1. The only better than the Bears beating the cowgirls would be the either the Saints or the Colts doing the same.
2. Tho my team really sucked this year, I'm sad that the regular season is winding down.

5. FWIW not all Christians are anti-halloween. Most of us realize is a fairly harmless holiday. The only bad thing is kids wired on a sugar rush.

1. I started buying Halloween candy today. A kind the kid doesn't like.
2. I watched (via my laptop) RJ present an interesting case to the County Commission today.

1. I went to the gym over lunch and after getting cleaned up realized I forgot my makeup at home. I hope no one notices too much.
2. Walking Dead Season 2 is on Netflix! Braaainnnsss…or terraplnr without makeup…
3. My son wants to be Wall-E for Halloween and the pre-made costumes aren’t very good, this is going to be a challenging costume year… grrr.
4. It’s been kinda too warm this week for October. I’d like some sweater weather, please.
5. I’m hungry and there’s still 1.5 hours of work left.

1. While I have seen the word 'desiccant' in print many times, today is the first time I have had occasion to write the word myself.
2. My son is badgering me daily to replace the guitar strings that broke on his little guitar. My prediction: as soon as I replace them he'll strum it for maybe 15 minutes and it'll not see use again for at least another 6 months.
3. I'm down 8 lbs from my all time high.
4. Next year I will try to grow a lot more cucumbers and tomatos in the garden
5. I think it would be cool to have Tim Burton as a next door neighbor

1. 9:30 is as good a time as any to take a lunch break, and no one can tell me otherwise.
2. As of this morning, I have successfully cut every fingertip on my left hand. Archiving is more dangerous for me than archaeology was.
3. I'm interviewing an intern in a half hour or so. If I decide to take her, that will make more interns than paid employees at my museum.
4. I don't mind interns, it's just that I don't have enough work for them to do... but we have to take them. The University offers a certificate in Special Collections, and we are a designated practicum site. :|
5. Oh well, y'all have me thinking dinner. Calabacita tonight.

1. Doing all the chores around the house and taking care of a newborn 50% of the time is a lot of work. Thank goodness for my mother. When younger I thought she was overly nurturing, now I think it is her greatest characteristic.
2. My mother-in-law gave us a "free car" that we have already sunk almost $1000 into and now it is leaking oil on my driveway. I hate that car. I want to drive it into a swamp. We cannot even put the baby into it because it is an unsafe 17 year old Jeep Wrangler. WTH was she thinking. I want to get rid of it but she would freak out. And when she freaks out, watch out. Hell hath no fury...

1. Although my youngest daughter is only 6, listening to TS talk about her baby makes me slightly nostalgic for those times.

2. I just participated in a dumb survey so I could claim $5... dumb.
3. The last two days have been busy ones, and that makes me feel both more confident and more optimistic (even though my financial status hasn't changed).

1. When you make an appointment with a Big Cheese Planner, don't assume you are in the same time zone (one hour late).
2. When you receive a Public Information Request and don't know how to respond, don't ignore it and and hope it goes away then have a Big Cheese Planner make everything right.
3. I think the Giants are going to lose tonight.
4. It's spelled "racist."
5. I hope to get a couple of more days of swimming in the pool this weekend (water was 86°F on Sunday).

3. I've got to cut back working to one day a week, there are too many other things I want to do.

I believe it is reference to the Detroit Tigers sweeping a series in baseball ie., bringing out the brooms.
