I have no inner-liberal. I wear my bleeding heart on my sleeve.
My inner liberal comes out when racist undertones begin to become present in any conversation, and when discussing capital punishment (I'm against it).
Mine comes out when I hear people say all government employees are overpaid!
I burned down the church to atone for my transgressions.
I let my inner liberal out once but the experience was too taxing.
“Death comes when memories of the past exceed the vision for the future.”
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.
Amongst friends and trusted colleagues the inner liberal is always outside playing. Amongst others it comes out to play when the poor are criminalized and when I am asked why I waste my time working in the 'hood when I could be out minting money as an analyst or a wonk.
"He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?" Jeremiah 22:16
My inner liberal comes out when some right-wing nutjob starts spouting nonsense. There is this guy who tunes our piano. He is married to a friend of my wife's, so we have him do the job, but I am the one who ends up stuck in the house with this yahoo for a couple hours while he goes on about the latest Glenn Beck/Limbaugh/Coulter claptrap. After about fifteen minutes. I am like "Popeye" - it's all I can stands I can't stands no more.
When he lectured me about the sinners who were going to Hell because they didn't follow the Catholic playbook concerning birth control, it was way way too much. Since those sinners included my wife and my mom and really most Catholic women and men I know - I let the liberal beast unleash.
The next hour was awkward, to say the least.
"I am very good at reading women, but I get into trouble for using the Braille method."

My inner liberal comes out when people assume all men must like huge trucks, hunting, and owning every tool that Lowe's sells. I made a joke that I hunt at the grocery store because I don't think it's a fair fight to hide yourself in a tree stand and let's just say more than a few eyes rolled and some slurs were said. So I can't change my own oil - people like me keep you employed.
I burned down the church to atone for my transgressions.
That's pretty much me, too, but I find that I've got some really unique views, too.
I'm pretty radical on immigration: I'd open the doors and let 'em in if they don't have criminal/terrorist connections. This country needs more people willing to work hard.
I am also significantly left of liberal when it comes to civil rights, criminal justice, and religious freedom. That may seem contradictory since on the conservative thread, I said I "mostly support law enforcement", but the fact is that supporting law enforcement doesn't mean ignoring violations of defendents' rights.
My inner liberal comes out when I see family-values fundamentalists protesting a Metallica concert. I went up to them as I was entering the show and said to them, "God bless Metallica! God loves Metallica!" That shut them up alright.

First, whenever I hear someone complain about how illegal immigrants are "stealing jobs from Americans and creating crime". I know a family that is currently in legal residence limbo, and they don't steal jobs, sell drugs, have 15 kids running around, or refuse to assimilate.
Second, the encounters with Bible thumpers who think that every aspect of modern society is evil.
Third, civil rights issues, I don't really see how someone cannot support marriage equality or oppose affordable housing on racial grounds.
Fourth, whenever I hear some Tea Party type say that health care is not a human right. It's not someone's fault that they are predisposed to X, Y, or Z because of their parents or grandparents, or if they started smoking when they were 15 and nobody knew it was bad.
And last but not least, stuff like the debate in Cincinnati over the streetcar. There's currently a petition to get a measure on the ballot that would ban any and all rail construction (even with private money) for ten years. Really? Talk about economic suicide.
When I tell people that the remaining 13 countries with AAA ratings by S&P have strong socialist tendencies.
Whenever I hear someone assume that they have a direct line to the Divine and can interpret the information received for the masses, up to and including why everyone but the speaker and his or her little group is going to burn in hell for all eternity for essentially choosing the wrong flavor of religion.
Maintaining enthusiasm in the face of crushing apathy.
Ah yes. Its been a while, but I have on more than a few ocassions had situations where I was somewhere like at a bar waiting for someone or getting drinks and some guy next to me starts chatting me up and at some point, steers the conversation in a less than savory direction. "You know what the problem is" they will say, looking aside to make sure no one is listening "Its those damn XXXXs" It could be any group - Jews, Mexicans, Government employees - but the dynamic is the same. I am always baffled by this - what was it about me, my demeanor or my attitude that would make these people think I was in favor of their opinion?! Its almost like a dare because mustering up the gumption to tell some total stranger their opinion is wrong is not an easy thing to do and they know it. Maybe its because, as a friend recently noted, I've got "patient listener" written all over my face...
Anyway, that's when my inner liberal comes out. Not that its so inner to begin with, but I generally keep my thoughts to myself unless the circumstance warrants.
The purpose of life is a life of purpose
I sometimes skip my daily shower. That makes me feel a bit like a liberal although they tend to skip showering for weeks at a time.
Echo the heart of the sleeve sentiment. I don't really have an inner liberal. She is more or less everywhere.
Today I heard a woman say that she could tell another woman was from a particular place due to her teeth and that we should round all "those" people up and ship them home because they are sucking up all our money. Riiiiight. Very well thought out statement my lady. Compelling argument. Way to be an intelligent contributor to the human species. That will solve our fiscal woes. Winner.![]()
Occupy Your Brain!
I killed my inner liberal with a military spec sniper rifle and I feel so much better.
My inner liberal comes out when I read posts by douche bags from San Antonio. I just want to give them a big, liberal, tree-hugging bear hug.

C'mon and get me you twist of fate
I'm standing right here Mr. Destiny
If you want to talk well then I'll relate
If you don't so what cause you don't scare me
I guess my liberal leanings tend to come out on issues of immigration where I favor and very open door policy, and also when people talk of making English the mandatory language of the country. Demographics change, get over it.
