The Coolest Person In The World

It's time to nominate your choice as "The Coolest Person In The World".

What exactly is "cool", in a slangish sort of way? How about excellent, first-rate, somebody or something they did that we admire.....?

Your choice can be a politician (lottsa luck with THAT one!), a sports figure, your dad, Uma Thurman, a race car driver, a stoner rock and roller smoking a doobie, the geek planning assistant down the hall in cube 7, a movie star, a religious person, Stan, the person who helped you get out of the truck's way, a disc jockey banned from real radio and now on satellite radio, the kid in the back of the class who told Mr. Johnson what to do with his "History Of The War Of 1812" assignment, etc.

    This Bear nominates: Bono.

IMHO he has always been cool. Lately he's been ultra-cool. He seems cool under pressure (as in talking with heads of states), he looks cool in the U2 videos, he interviews cool.

    My choice. What's yours?

    His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

Calm, cool, collected. All this while living in exhile.

Living proof you don't need to rock to be cool.

He's an excellent public speaker who mixes wisdom with humor.

I had the honor of seeing him speak a dozen years ago on a college campus near where my parent retired. If he's ever speaking in your state, go.

All these years the people said he’s actin’ like a kid.
He did not know he could not fly, so he did.

My parents, in a tie, for putting up with all the crap I gave them when I was younger, and for being so instrumental in keeping me sane when the ex decided to turn my life upside down.

    Jimmy Buffett.

Here is a man who knows how to live. Great entertainer. Astute businessman. World champion party animal. Traveller. Writer. Bon vivant. Yet he has never fallen off the deep end. Hasn't blown his money. Hasn't ruined his life with drugs and booze. Stayed out of big trouble. Oh sure the Jamacian shot at his plane, but that was a mistake. Anyone who knows Jimmy knows he wouldn't bring drugs to Jamacia. Now leaving Jamacia, that's a different story.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
    He's a planner, he's a dreamer, he's a sordid little schemer,
Seems to think that money grows on trees . . .

My best friend, Jim. We thought alike, enjoyed the same things, could have been twins. Sadly, I lost track of him 20 years ago. A close second is elGuapo.

    Thanks Mike.

I'm gonna nominate Val Kilmer for the 80's
    Bono for the 90's
And for the 00's I say it has to be Dave Attel or Budgie. (Have you noticed you don't see Dave and Budige in the same room, like ever?)

Good call. A fascinating man whom I have recently taken an interest in. I was raised by Parrotheads and now I know it has stuck. Maybe it is time to listen to some Jimmy.

Dead? John Kennedy, he was so cool you could store a side of meat for him for a week.

    Least cool president: Nixon.

I think Rumpy is the coolest person on the planet. RJ's a close second.

Hey, where's that old "Cyburbians you'd like to meet" thread.

That's only because you saw me on the cover of this month's Tiger Beat

I'll nominate Budgie just because he needs to be nominated for being cool.

OMG I thought that was Justin Tiberlake!

I also nominate Jimmy Buffet. After all, his coolness is partially responsible for my choice of where to go to college.

As I was watching the Cubs beat the Cardinals (WOOO HOOOO! ) Last night on ESPN, I couldn't help but notice a familiar voice calling the game....

I would like to nominate ESPN and ABC announcer Gary Thorne as one of the coolest people. Not only does he get to announce baseball, but I remember him being the announcer for NHL (who?) games on ESPN and ABC, as well as college football games on ABC.

Imagine getting paid to be at and work all those sporting events year round! THAT would be cool.
