Which tree is which?

I've recently moved from the northwest to Texas where part of my job is reviewing landscaping for the city landscaping ordinance. The problem here of course is that I DO NOT KNOW the local flora. I wasn't that good with northwest flora to begin with. So, can any one recommend a book or two to help me speed up the learning curve as I try to figure out how to tell an oak from an elm not to mention being able to tell one KIND of oak from another.
