Long time lurker, first time poster

I remembered this was one of the first websites I regularly visited years ago - when it was hosted at U NY Buffalo. It's always been a great resource - especially when I was still going to college up to 1998. Anyways, I got tired of the past discussion boards I tried to get comfortable with - namely a SimCity game site. But being a 30ish cubicle jockey hanging out with pimply kids isn't too respectable.

I'm a GIS Analyst for an engineering firm contracting with the City of Atlanta. I'm responsible for much of the GIS development for the city's watershed department. Of course, I'm open to GIS queries, with 8 years experience I hope I can help out anyone. Of course I had wanted to be a city planner, but noticing the hard work for nothing - similar to another interest I have, architecture, I passed. And since I've always loved geography, it beats selling crack.

Native Sandlapper (SC), living in the capital of the dirty south - Atlanta, for 14 years. Married, 4 cats, home in Cabbagetown. Pretty normal geek hipster who feels guilty for shopping at Home Depot & other national retail chains but adores convinience. Can be found at an art house theater, or at watching Starsky & Hutch. Loves Miller Genuine Draft & fruity girly martini's. Longs for Radiohead to collaborate with Neil Diamond - Elvis Costello did with Burt Bacharach, so it isn't that unlikely.

Well, if URISA has it's way, I will eventually need a license to be a GIS Analyst. I'm debating if I want to become a 'certified' GIS Analyst. What is the point of being licensed in a profession if eventually every other profession is licensed? My sister had to attend a licensed library of science college to be called a 'librarian'. Soon fry cooks will have licenses.
