Thread: Hi...I'm "GRID"

  1. #1

    Hi...I'm "GRID"

Hey -- I am so glad that I found this "Cyburbia." I had no idea that it existed! What a cool, creative, perfect name for an urban forum: "CYBURBIA." I stumbled across this on accident and it made my day.

Anyways, my username is "GRID." It seems I recognize some of your names from other architecture Forums, and some of you may recognize my name.

I am currently living in the Miami area and going to college. I look forward to graduating one of these days and then I'll leave Miami and head-off to who knows where to start my career -- I'm thinking California: San Francisco or LA. I am a city skyline, urban, and landscape architecture-enthusiast, and hope to use my artistic and creative skills in my future career. "Hello" to you all and I look forward to chatting about our similiar interests in urban topics, although we all come from different backgrounds, continents, countries, and faiths.

    Welcome from Chicago!!

    I, Urbanist, also.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

    Welcome from the inland northwest.
I think that one of the great signs of security is the ability to just walk away.

    Welcome from bucolic Central Illinois!
SOME say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
    Is also great
    And would suffice.

LA and San Francisco are certainly different urban forms. Welcome from the Valley of the Sun.

Welcome, Grid, from the north shore of the mighty O-HI-O, 609 miles south of its source, where we are just some 55 hours from illegally moving our Hoosier clocks one hour ahead.

Cybrurbia is a great place full of fun and sometimes, well, rather lively conversations. Enjoy

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Welcome from the Washington DC metro area.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

You all -- Thanks! I really had no idea about this Forum before. I would love to see this place just boom with even tons more traffic. Also, it is neat how this Forum is tied-in so closely with an adult-feeling urban planning website!

Lakelander -- It is great to see you, too. I've always felt you were one of the true, authentic urbanists. It makes sense seeing you here.
