We planners are used to getting our names in the paper, but it's still kinda' cool to seeing your name in print.

"auto road" - a euphemism for "redneck row"?

Good article. You didn't give the impression of being a controlling govt entity. Reading the article made me want to see Oakland - keep up the good work.

A typo. I said "auto row."

Way to go Dan. I noticed that the 'article' was more of an op ed piece, thereby reducing the chances that the author would actually have to deal with FACTS and other items likely to produce the ERRORS that characterize local reporting on planning issues.

My favorite planning headline? The Blackstone Valley Tribune's
"THIS PUDs FOR YOU!" I'll take mine with a B.

    Dude you ROCK!

I'm glad they didn't misquote you too badly. Good job Oakland Planner!

Back in the day a local reporter mis-quoted me as refering to our local citizens as "peasants." That went over well.

Back in my county planning days in Arkansas, we made the papers all the time... and never in a good way, especially from one particular reporter.

What really chafed me was her "purposeful mistake" of referring to me as an assistant planner, no matter how often I told her my title was ASSOCIATE planner.

The one paper had all the planning info in a neat little packet in a special box... The other b**** had her materials set in a box, too... But oddly, some of the more important materials kept falling behind the file cabinet! She was eventually fired for poor reporting.

    This was typical:

*Moron beat writer storms into office*

MBW: I want a copy of such and such report!
Me: Sorry, you can't have it right now.
MBW: Oh yeah?! Ever hear of freedom of information?
Me: Sure. Fill out an FOI form and put it in my box.
MBW: I will! And then I want it!
Me: Oh no, I have two weeks to prepare it for you.
    MBW: Bull****!
Me: Obviously, you've never read the FOI act...
MBW: Oh yes I have! And you have to copy...
Me (Interrupting): Actually, I can just let you read it in our conference room... take good notes. Or, I can charge you a quarter a page for that 200 page report, and add my time in to boot. Up to $250, you know...
MBW (Headed out the door): I'll be reporting this!
    Me: Remember, It's ASSOCIATE planner!

At that point, I make a copy and put it in the other newspapers box.
