I am having a public hearing in about 1/2 hour... on a new regional plan. Are some plans just so non-specific that people just don't care to comment. This is a county-wide plan and I have already been told that probably no one will come.
Is this common amongst other county planners??

Mostly, it was attended by planning professionals and people in related professions. Plus a few old geezers and one student (me,).

well it is over.... it was a public hearing not a visioning meeting.
We do get people out for the specific issues...such as traffic or stone walls...but this was a side spin of an existing long-range planning document and didn't say anything earth shattering....but it is pretty. We have repackaged our county long range planning document to serve as our county's sub-plan within larger region planning area within the state...
Needless to say I had a nice chat with 3 board members....so not all was lost

So how many non-work / school related citizens were there?
no one showed up but 3 members from the county planning board and myself. We had a nice chat... and they pointed out 2 typos in the document.
Do Bill and Hillary ever show up at meetings protesting "them new rental properties that'll bring in the wrong element"?
Is Rye or Port Chester the city with all the Bolivian or Peruvian businesses downtown surrounded by fancy neighborhoods? I had to find a bathroom off the highway before I got into the city.

Most of our villages and cities have a high population of central/south Americans. .. and are surrounded by extremely high end residential bedroom communities of NYC
I suspect our county comprehensive plan here in central NY state may get the same underwhelming reception when it gets to public hearing. B-)
Could it be that regional plans in home rule states are basically irrelevant to the public at large?

I work for a rural county that is currently updating its comprehensive plan. We've had suprisingly (in my view) active participation from the citizens. To encourage this, we've advertised extensively.
A nuisance may be merely a right thing in the wrong place — like a pig in the parlor instead of the barnyard.
BINGO.... I think you are right...our county has even less power than the county I worked for in upstate ny.
