    Snapshot 7/15/16

When was the last time you made sun tea?

People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

    That would be roughly never.

Back in the 80s when it became a thing - but that was my mother-in-law doing it.

Never. But growing up, I had a friend who's mom constantly had some brewing.

I know I have done it but can't remember when.

Does that answer belong in the vague thread ?

I had no idea what sun tea even was until now (besides that 30 Rock sun tea joke ). Why would anyone do this?

It ranks up there with the last time was in a hang glider dog fight with a bull moose.
There is no such thing as failure, only learning experiences. However, it is our choice to learn the lesson and change or not.

I've never made it but my grandma used to make it in the summers and I always liked it. It tasted less bitter than stovetop method my dad used, but he probably boiled the tea way too much.

You've done that too? The worst is when the moose rips your glider with his antlers. You're just screwed at that point.

No, I've never made it. My mom use to make it all the time growing up.

A few weeks ago. I like the taste better, and it is a lot less bitter than stovetop brewed tea.

I made it quite often when I was a stay-at-home mom.

We made when I was a kid.

I never did but I remember my aunts did back in the 80s.

I grew up in the north where we never had enough sun to make sun tea. My mother would brew tea for iced tea though; my dad and I could go through a gallon/ day in the summer. We loved it.

Now that I'm in the south, I want to try this sun thing. I figure it just needs to be out there an hour or so since the heat index has been almost to 110 for the last month. Problem is -- I don't have a glass container. So I haven't tried it yet.
How do I know you are who you think you are?

I brew mine in a glass pitcher with plastic wrap over the top. You don't have to get a sun tea jug.

I wouldn't say never, but we're pretty much limited to about three months out of the year. We made some last week in fact.

Plenty of grocery stores in the South sell sun tea containers...
