    RV on street parking question?

    Concerned citizen:
Our small town 40,000 is in the process of changing the parking regulations for boat trailers, RV, etc parking on the street. We have wide streets & in general little congestion. A few people use the street as their year round RV storage & trailer storage. Some large motorhomes & 5th wheels have parked to closed to the end of the block making it difficult to see so some City Council members have wanted an ordinance to limit on-street parking. Would like imput as to how some of your other areas have handled this situation. I understand some east coast cities have banned recreation vehicles from on-street parking.

The following is from the Traffic Code (as opposed to the Zoning Code), but covers all vehicles, not just RVs and the like:

    Over Night Parking
It shall be unlawful to leave any motor vehicle parked on the public streets of the city for a period in excess of 24 hours ... or one that is not in running order on the streets for a period in excess of 24 hours.

The problem, of course, is enforcement. Vehicles are usually tagged and their tires chalked to verify that the vehicles has not moved. Then they are towed to the city's impound lot.
    On pitching to Stan Musial:
"Once he timed your fastball, your infielders were in jeopardy."

Parking vehicles on public ROW is a traffic code issue that can be enforced by the police. If this is a small, sleepy town, the force should have the time to periodically drive by the offending vehicles and take car of the problem.

If the vehicles are parked on private property, it can be enforced through zoning code.
Dude, I'm cheesing so hard right now.

Most jurisdictions here prohibit RV's from parking in the public ROW period.

The idea here was to make parking of RV's, Boats etc.on ROW "only" on Thursday - Monday so... the police would be able to ticket any of these on Tuesday or Wednesday if there wasn't a special permit (cost $10.00). I don't think this will solve the problem of people parking to near the end of the street (making it difficult to see). Though a lot of SUV's are as difficult to see around as a truck camper or boat on trailer. It will stop people from storing the items on the road year around - but I would have thought there was an easier way to stop that.
