    Starting the draft...

I'm going to get it going on a Monday, I just don't know which Monday. Either next week, or Aug. 2nd

    Preferences?

Once I get a sound off from ALL the teams, we can still begin. If Joe wants to make his #1 pick... he can. Then if #2 wants to pick, go fo it...

This is the date when the VIKING RULE goes inot effect, and you have only the limited time to draft.

So... vacations, big meetings, etc. let's know about 'em now!

I voted Aug 2 but I have no good reason except that more info will be out by then.

Which is reasonable. Many drafts wait out training camp to see the battles and injuries. We just can't afford to do that...

August 2 works for me as well. Is there any provisional rule that would allow for an injury replacement post-draft but prior to play starting?

I voted for July 28. As we saw last week into this week, a single draft can take days without the viking rule. The faster it goes into place, the more likely to be done before the next ice age......oops....I mean before regular season starts!

No real preference, but I think the sooner we start the better.....so I voted for the 26th.

I picked July 26th since it's my birthday

I will be on vacation in Madison and Chicago from August 12 to August 17 but will make sure that my picks happen on time.

Let's get this show on the road!

Well, the vote for the 26th will have it since I'm not voting, so... is there anyone out there who CANNOT be available that week.

The vote is about 50-50, so we might as well get started.

But, if someone gives a solid reason (like they'll be in Nepal that week), I'd be willing to shift the date. But everyone keep reading, because once it starts, the VIKING RULE is in effect! You miss your deadline... you take what's left.

The hioliday is Simcoe Day/August Stat Holiday, depends on where you live. Really just an excuse to drink beer and go to the cottage.

Okay, without wading through all the other threads, what exactly is the Viking Rule?

Each team is "on the clock" -- if you miss your appointed time, you forfeit that pick and receive the pick at the end of the draft. (NFL 2003 Vikings peed away one of their draft picks this way, hence the name).

The "clock" for each team is 24 hours, excluding the weekends.

At the end of the draft or the end of the round?

I thought it was 12 hours. Oh well, 24 works nicely too.

It may be 12.....I was trying to recall from memory...and didn't go back to the original thread.

Mastiff will need to clarify it for us before we start.

    Answers...

    1) It's 12 hours. The reasoning? Even if someone picks at 10pm after you go to bed, you have until 10 am the next day. Does anyone not check their computer twice a day? When I know my pick is coming up... I check even more frequently.

    B) The next round basically starts right after the one is finished. Why? Because the team picks twice in a row. Why hold them up? I'll have the "Round 2" thread ready well before round 1 is done. Same thing folks, please keep the chatter in another thread... heck, start a trash talk thread.

III) The VIKING RULE does NOT mean the team waits until the end of the round or the end draft. It simply means we move on as if they'd picked. Once the team sees they missed a pick, they can select ANYTIME. Do me a favor if you have this happen. Put it in the correct round, put VIKING or I'M A SILLY VIKING or somesuch in the title so I know to go back and add your pick, and also send a PM. I'll insert the player selected into the current area of the draft (even though I'm HOPING no one misses an entire round!) if it's back a ways. The rule is to make people keep an eye on the board.

Four) Your 12 hours starts IMMEDIATLY after the team in front of you picks. You CAN'T just assume you have 48 hours if three teams are ahead of you. They may pick within minutes of one another, and put you on the clock. The "clock" is suspended from 5:00 pm Friday EST to 8:00am Monday PST to make it fair, but time will be split... so if your time starts on Friday, be ready to pick Monday morning. People can pick all week-end if they want, but no ones time begins until Monday morning.

That make everything clear as mud?

Actually, I believe they just peed away a couple of positions. Instead of picking #9 they picked at #11 or #12.
