In Canada I've been to
BC
Alberta
Saskatchewan
Manitoba
Yukon
I've never had a reason to go further east.
In the US, I've been to
Alaska
Arizona
California
Colorado
Delaware
Florida
Idaho
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Texas
Utah
Virginia
Washington
Most of the states & provinces I've visited, I've actually been to multiple times. Next year, I'm going to Alberta for my 8th? time. I may go to Minnesota as well which would be new to me as I've only changed planes there before.
I really like mountains and oceans so I've avoided what I consider to be the square, flat states in the middle of the US. I've been told they can be a lot of fun but they just don't hold a lot of appeal to me. I'd love to spend more time on the east coast of the US. It's just so far away.
St Francis Kansas was kind of nice, that whole area around Wray Colorado is ok also....I do want to visit Coffeyville some day....but I'm not sure why....?Originally posted by Super Amputee Cat
If its all the same to you, I'll skip Arkansas....life's too short to waste time on the third world and Arkansas........not true, I actually want to visit some third world countries...I'll stick to Glenwood Springs, Ouray hot springs pool, Hot Sulphur Springs, Idaho Springs (I know the owners, they're great people) and hot springs west of Kansas....I will take US 56 or US 24 next time....
Oh by the way, nerdsville on the map![]()

I was going to ask you about your strange hatred of the state. Could it have anything to do with overdevelopment? I've been along the coast when we went up from Ocean City and there is a lot pretentious overdevelopment and general sterlity in places like Bethany Beach, Rehoboth and Fenwick Island. These were once sleepy little seaside communities that have been infiltrated by yuppies, who are tearing down the old cottages in droves, just like just about everywhere else along the Mid and South Atlantic.Originally posted by teshadow
(God help us if a hurricane hits Delaware or New Jersey, because we'll all be paying for those rich pricks to rebuild their multi-million dollar McMansions for the next 100 years. )
The only other place I've visited is Dover, and New Castle. The latter is a very well preserved early 19th Century village, but again, yuppies have driven up the prices and turned it into just another place to go gallery hopping and latte sipping.
I realize now that we ate dinner in Las Vegas, NV on our way to Cali....so I guess that leaves just New Mexico and some stuff up around the Great Lakes (plus Hawaii and Alaska). I would have to pull out my map of our road trips to be more specific.....maybe I will do that later.![]()
I truly hate having to say this - but I was attempting to pull a funny. Sorry if it rubbed anyone the wrong way![]()
Hurricanes nothing - try rising sea levels.Originally posted by Super Amputee Cat
I guess now would be a good time to thank you all for the beach replenishment you've been paying for à la the Army Corps of Engineers since 1998. I think we're at $150 million and counting. Of course it's a never ending job (the kind the Corps likes) but it was partially undertaken to repair the damage they did in the 50's.

Indeed you can usually tell when the concepts of democracy and citizenship are weakening. There is an increase in the role of charity and in the worship of volunteerism. These represent the élite citizen's imitation of noblesse oblige; that is, of pretending to be aristocrats or oligarchs, as opposed to being citizens.
Hm. Haven't been to all of them by any means, but if you count going through on trains, been to lots:
US
IN
IL
OH
MI
WI
KY
TN
GA
FL
AL
NC
SC
WV
VA
PA
NY
CT
ok basically all of the east coast up to VT, most of the southeast, CA, OR, WA, that wide swath of states heading west from MO to CA, and the top part of the US, and, in Canada, just ON so far. And FR and the UK. That's it. For now.![]()
I don't dream. I plan.
47 - every state but Hawaii, Alaska, and Utah. Most were visited on loooooonnnngg car trips as a kid.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
From Electric Horseman (1979)
I've been to all of the states on the east coast, and California, Arizona, and Washington on the west, but nothing in between other than Ohio & Pennsylvania. When I was a young and rowdy teenager, I read a book called Vagabonding in America, which inspired dreams of hitchhiking across the U.S. Although I had a friend willing to accompany me, my dream died as soon as I was old enough to realize the risks involved.
So, I've flown across the U.S., but I've missed out on the entire midsection. I figure maybe when (and if) I'm old enough to retire, I'll finally have the time for an extended road trip. It's certainly not from lack of interest. I've always had to work - unlike many of my grad school friends, I never had the money or time to travel around the country or Europe or wherever.

You bet - I'm as far north and west as possible in Oregon.Originally posted by Super Amputee Cat
States in flyover country that everyone should visit:
Michigan-great lakes, great cities
Wisconsin-great lakes, forests, cheeses, and beers
Iowa-Mesquakie word for "beautiful land". Des Moines and Cedar Rapids are quintessentially beautiful midwest towns.
Nebraska-Omaha and Lincoln are great towns. Get north from I-80 into the sandhills.
North Dakota-nicest people I've met anywhere. Fargo and Bismarck are nice places, and the landscape is actually quite beautiful. Northern lights are great here.
Minnesota-best northwoods camping anywhere, Twin Cities are great
Missouri-St. Louis is filled with great architecture, KC has great parks and parkways, the MO river valley is awesome
Kansas-I've only been to Wichita (a nice city) and the northeast corner (very hilly and scenic along the Missouri river)
All in all, I've been in 36 states and 5 provinces (ON, QB, NB, NS, PE)
SOME say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Haven't been to:
Washington - definitely visiting soon
Oregon - ditto
Idaho - not sure I'll ever make it
Nevada - definitely must see Vegas
Utah - mm.. think I'll pass
Arizona - not sure, maybe
New Mexico - ditto
Texas - no way
Louisiana - big Saints fan, have to go
Wisconsin - really want to visit, not sure if it'll happen
Michigan - ditto
Vermont - moving to Maine next year, so I'll visit soon
As for Canada, I've been to Saskatchewan and Ontario.. plan to see the Atlantic provinces once I'm closer.

Wisconsin over Utah....????

But unless I'm mistaken, Utah doesn't serve real beer in their bars... that's a deal breaker in itself. How can one enjoy a new destination without sampling the local brew? Yikes.Originally posted by The One
Milwaukee... yum
You are partially mistaken. You can get real (above 3.2% alcohol by volume) beer in the bars and even some restaurants (depending on liquor license), you just can't get it on tap. We have several local breweries that serve excellent beer. Our brewers have to be pretty damned good, becasue they cannot cover up poor craftsmanship with increased alcohol.Originally posted by valhallan
