Sorry, I really didn't mean to slight Georgia. I'm sorry if it came out that way. Atlanta seems like a really cool place. I really want to go there sometime, visit the CNN center, catch a Braves game, visit the MLK site, etc. I also heard Savannah is really historic and beautiful. And I heard the drives in northern Georgia are really scenic. Really, of the southern states I haven't been to, Georgia and South Carolina are probably at the top of my list. Unfortunately, given everywhere else I haven't been (the northeast, TX, most of the West), I'm not sure if Georgia is #1 on my list, but it's definitely someplace I want to go to.

I want to visit New England, from Boston to Burlington. I have no desire to visit CA, UT, NV, WA, or OR. I have been to SD; ND is not on my map. Wouldn't mind seeing ID, MT & WY. Been most everywhere else.

    Well.....

I haven't visited Washington State, Oregon, Vermont, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Alaska or Hawaii yet.
I want to visit these states in this order, if I have a choice:
    1. Hawaii
    2. Alaska
    3. Washington
    4. Oregon
    5. Vermont
    6. South Carolina
    7. Michigan
    8. Wisconsin

No offense to anyone from there, but Atlanta is sooooooooooooooooo overrated. People in the southern states talk about Atlanta as if it's San Francisco or Paris. St. Louis has more to offer than ATL.

I'd visit St. Louis over Atlanta.

Been to more states than I haven't been to.

Haven't been to West Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Wyoming, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma.

Some like Oklahoma and Kansas would probably only be visited for the sake of knocking them off the list or if I do a cross country road trip some day.

Despite my picking on ip a bit a few posts back...some long-time residents of Atlanta that I know are puzzled as to why tourists would want to visit Atlanta. And, if I lived elsewhere, it would not be on the list of cities I would want to vacation in. Nor would Saint Louis be, actually...

Atlanta is definitely someplace I would only spend maybe 3 days in, either as a weekend trip, or as part of a larger trip to other areas (like Savannah or Charleston or Nashville).

I would defend ND a bit- although the eastern 2/3 of the state leaves something to be desired, the Badlands are amazing. I spent a nice day or two there on a roadtrip a long time ago, arrived at Teddy Roosevelt NP right at sundown after driving through flatness all day, and was blown away.

If you count driving through, I think I have touched on all the lower 48, although in fairness many of those visits were not much more than stopping at a rest area, if that. Most of my time in the USA has been in New England, New York, the Upper Midwest (MN, WI, IL, MI), the DC area, and the west coast. I'd be accused of ignoring flyover country except for my time in the Upper MW.

CNN Center sucked. Atlanta can be OK, depending on when/why you are there. There are many more non-Atlanta places in Ga I could recommend. We only go to Atlanta to see baseball games but I would rather go anywhere else for a vacation.

    3 left

I have 3 states left to visit, and hopefully I will have visited them all by August. I have Idaho, Nevada, and OK left. I am stopping in Idaho en route to see family in Washington and I will drive through Nevada and OK on my way to start grad school at U of IL.

I took a train trip from Portland, Maine to Ontario, California in October 2011. That helped knock off many of these states.

My goal was to see all 50 by my 25th birthday, sadly, that won't happen, but I'll make it within a month of it.

I agree about Teddy Roosevelt NP, that is a stellar place to visit and the jewel of North Dakota. The very best thing about Eastern Montana was Regina, Saskatchewan

I haven't been to New York, New Jersey, Delaware or anywhere in New England. Haven't been to Alaska or Hawaii. Haven't been to Montana or Idaho, although I hear they are beautiful. North Dakota is one I have missed but no real desire to go there except to cross another off my list. Finally, I managed to miss Alabama somehow although I've been to or through every other state in the south.

Hawaii is at the top of my list, followed by Alaska, New York, Mass (Boston), Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, and Montana.

There are so many places I haven't been and so many places I want to go. I think so much is just subjective to what you're interested in.
    I must see:
    1. DC - I've actually never been there
    2. Go back to NY - I never had enough time
    3. South Dakota - Mt. Rushmore
    4. Yellowstone - covers a couple states
    5. Rubicon Trail - CA/NV
    6. Utah - Moab
    7. Any beach state - I've been to most, but I can always enjoy beach time

Places I'm not that interested in:
    1. Montana, Idaho, North Dakota - There are good things, I'm just not interested
    2. Wisconsin - just not that into cheese
    3. Nebraska - I've seen enough corn

Most of the other states I would enjoy, but I'm not really making it a point to go see them.

The Little Missouri River in SW Arkansas is great too and close to the Cossatot, which is awesome, but only for the very experienced floater.

Haven't visited AR or MI. No real desire to visit either because I don't see any cool historical sites or other attractions that would compel me to go there.

really? I have never been to Saskatchewan, but I hear awful things. Flat and boring!
    I've been to 4 states.
Washington, Oregan, California and Utah not bad for a young Canadian I think!
And I've been to Niagra Falls on the Ontario side, so, I've seen New York I guess

I would suspect that your geography has a lot to do with it too. Michigan is in an isolated corner, and your town is an isolated corner of an isolated corner!

I've only been to 21 states, so it is easier to list the ones I've been to than the ones I haven't.

California (born and raised, still here)
Western states - Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado
    Midwest - Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois
Eastern states - Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, New York , Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine

States that I didn't count for various reasons:
Hawaii (went there when I was nine, spent much of the trip playing gameboy)
Nebraska (drove through between midnight and 6am, literally saw nothing but the stripes on I-80)
Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island, Vermont (states I've passed through on various bus and train trips around the northeast)

In college I had a map of the US on my wall where I would shade in states I had visited, with the goal to shade in the whole thing. Not so much a goal anymore. Honestly, despite living in both Norcal and Socal and having driven up and down the state hundreds of times, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of California and would like to explore my own backyard much more in depth, including neighboring states such as Nevada, Arizona and Washington. International travel is also a bigger priority than blanketing the US. The only states not on my list that I have specific goals to visit are Hawaii, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, and Louisiana (New Orleans); I'll check off the others when life takes me there or if I happen drive through them on the way somewhere else.

Just racked my brain and this is the latest list:

AZ, CA, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MT, NC, NJ, MD, NV, NY, OH, PA, SC, SD, TN, VA, WI, WV, WY

Recently added SD (Badlands, Crazy Horse, Rushmore).

Mostly Eastern States. deficient in N New England. West and South not so much, but been to most of the 'cowboy' states.

I've been to the following provinces: ON, QUE, AB, and BC.

    Europe? England and Ireland.
