Who is taking an extended Labor Day ?

I am - Wednesday to Wednesday
    at the Jersey Shore
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.
    From Electric Horseman (1979)

no extended, just the normal extra day that we all get.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Taking of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to go to Pittsburgh to see Jimmy Buffett one more time this season. Then it's three days at the beach until reality kicks back in next Tuesday. I hate the end of summer.

I am taking an extended Columbus Day.... rethinking my thoughts of going to the Outer Banks and going to Cape Cod instead.

Bleh, We had planned on taking a couple of extra days to head South and spend them floating on the lake, but according to the Wife's school schedule she will have class on Labor Day. Downright unamerican...

I'm taking off from Friday Sept. 3 to Sept. 19. Everyone else has had their holidays in my office so now it's my turn. Will be flying home to Ontario for a quickie visit and then driving back out here (Manitoba) with one more load of my furnishings etc. Will arrive back in town during the 2nd week of my holidays just in time to have the contractors in to swap out my furnace and move my central a/c unit to the side of the house (freeing the back yard for a future deck.

I'm taking today off (really, really needed a mental health day) but unfortunately it has turned into getting ready for the next hurricane! But no extra time next weekend.

It isn't going to get us.

I would love to take another day off, but since I just started a new job, I cannot.

No extra day for me, just a 3-dayer. I just moved and am thinking about painting my bedroom. Considering our weather forecast (re: Frances), indoors may be the best place to be this weekend!

Well, if I was still living in Canada, I too would be looking forward to a long Labour Day weekend (or dreading it if I was still a student). Next public holiday in these parts is not until mid-Nov. However....we are celebrating the introduction of the 5-day work week starting tomorrow!! Woo Hoo! Until 2000, we were 5 1/2 days every week, and then since 2000 on alternate weeks only. So looks like this saturday will be like a "holiday" (esp since I will be flying off to the Philippines for 5 days of scuba diving!).

    Happy Labour Day!

Me's got to work at 6:20 this morning. Man I've been having those wacky dreams again. The kind that make you not want to sleep. Why am I here, oh so I can bail out early friday.
A guy once told me, "Do not have any attachments, do not have anything in your life you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner."

No extra long weekend for me. I will be making a trip to the city for a music and cultural festival.

Betcha a buck $ that this Bear wins the "best Labor Day plans" contest.....

    WEDNESDAY
Blood testing and EKG, in preparation for.....

    FRIDAY
    Bone Marrow Biospy

This will be my fourth or fifth bone marrow biopsy....I have lost track. The first few hurt more than anything in my somewhat long life.....about 15 seconds of intense pain as they jab into your hip bone and suck out bone marrow with a tiny needle scoop.

But.....now they have a process to knock you out.....oh, the joy of waking up an hour or so later and saying, "Where am I? Did they do it yet?"

    WEEKEND
Recuperation that doesn't involve beer. How sad. Then, back to work Tuesday.

For those with no understanding of that reference, the lyrics:

    - Hey Jack, what's happenin'?
    - I don't know.
    - Well uh, rumour around town says you mighht be thinkin' 'bout goin' down to
    the shore.
    - Uh, yeah, I think I'm gonna go down to thhe shore.
    - Whadda ya gonna do down there?
    - Uh, I don't know, p-play some video gamess, buy some Def Leppard t-shirts.
    - Don't forget your Motley Crue t-shirt; y''know all proceeds go to get their
    lead singer out a' jail.
    - Uh huh.
    - Can't wait to go down. Hey uh, were ya goonna check out the sand bar while
    you're down there?
    - Uh, what's the Sand Bar?
    - Ah, it's a place that lets sixteen year-oold kids drink.
    - Ah, cool.
    - Ya hey, guess who's gonna be there?
    - Uh, who?
    - My favourite cover band, Crystal Ship.
    - Wow.
    - Yeah, they do a Doors show, you'd be reallly impressed, in fact, it goes a
    little like this:

    Love me two times baby
    Love me twice today
    Love me two times girl
    Cause I got AIDS
    Love me two times baby,
    once for tomorrow,
    once cause I got AIDS

    - Uh...
    - Pretty good Jim Morrison impersonation thhere. I hope those guys have a
good sense a' humour and don't take us into court.
    - Uh, what's the court?
    - Never mind that, the important thing heree...
    - You mean the People's Court.
    - The... Now, that's another story. The impportant thing here is that we get
to the part where you ask me how I'm gonna get down to the shore.
    - Oh, how you gettin' down to the shore?
    - Funny you should ask, I've got a car now..
    - Ah wow, how'd ya get a car?
    - Oh, my folks drove it up here from the Baahamas.
    - You're kidding!
    - I must be, the Bahamas are islands. Okay,, the important thing here is
that, uh, you ask me what kinda car it is.
    - Uh uh, what kinda car do ya' got?
    - I've got a bitchin' Camaro...

    (1.2.3.4)
    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
    I ran over my neighbors
    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
Now I'm in all the papers

My folks bought me a bitchin' Camaro
    With no insurance to match
So if I happen to run you down
    Please don't leave a scratch

I ran over some old lady
One night at the county fair
    And I didn't get arrested
    Because my dad's the mayor

    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
    Donuts on your lawn
    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
    Tony Orlando and Dawn

When I drive past the kids
    They all spit and cuss
Cause I've got a bitchin' Camaro
And they have to ride the bus

So you'd better get out of my way
When I come through your yard
Cause I've got a bitchin' Camaro
    And an Exxon credit card

    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
    Hey man where ya headed?
    Bitchin' Camaro, Bitchin' Camaro!
    I'm drunk on unleaded!

Ha ha ha, Jeff, you put it so nicely. I'm actually dreading my long Labour Day weekend.

The weekend will be a real reminder that I'll have to return to school after a lofty four months of summer off! The town will be full of college and university students as well as their parents, extended families, dogs, cats, and god knows who else help them move into their new home away from their homes. I intend to stay in and stay out of the chaotic roads and deny that school is starting up again. *sigh*

But, once I get into the school groove, I'll be okay. I hope so!

    Happy relaxing everyone!
