    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

    Toledo, OH?
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

I want to say Thunder Bay, Ontario, but I don't think Walgreens has ever been in Canada. I've seen that downtown pic somewhere before though...

I'm wildly guessing for Sault Ste. Marie, otherwise known as the Soo.

None of the guesses are correct so far, although it is in the Great Lakes region

Its a good sized town, so I'm now going to guess Racine. Or maybe (but more doubtfully) Kenosha.

My dad insisted on American Motors cars for years. God, I still remember the 2-wheel drive Spirit that I learned to drive on. Yucko. Talk about rollovers!

    This is the correct answer.

I was hoping to throw some people off by saying the Sheboygan was the closet guess, which it is, just not by road.

In the short time I worked for the drug store chain, one of the store sites I reviewed was in Muskegon. It is mostly a run-down, shabby city. It did have one of the nicer mobile home parks I have seen, but also some pretty bad ones.

Muskegon... site of one of the most ill-fated experiments of the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" school.

Can't compete with suburban malls? Turn downtown into a mall. Not a Pearl Street Mall-style pedestrian promenade, a full-scale suburban-style shopping mall. Needless to say, it was an eyesore.

Wow...I am from muskegon and didn't even recognize most of those pictures. Muskegon used to be such a nice place now it's downtown is just run down and most of those buildings are either demolished or abandoned, aside from the bigger ones in the first pic At least they destroyed the mall and are in the process of rebuilding the street grid and the historic buildings.

Oh, and where did you get those pics from? I've been looking for old pics of muskegon but cant come up with anything

I have been copying scans off of e-bay for several years now and saving them on my hard drive. I have a list of about 50 e-bay sellers that post high-resolution scans of the post cards they have for sale. (Some put annnoying "E-Bay Scan" type lettering over the picture to discourage copying, but not many thank God. I guess they are afraid that people will just copy the scan and not bid on their item, but I'm not about to fork out $30 for a post card which is what a lot of them sell for, believe me. Even higher.)

I use them for Guess the City and my Cyburbia Postcard Page

I see that you have only one post. Welcome aboard! Have you been lurking or did you find this thread through some other means? If you get established here, I will add you to my Cyburbian dot map, and post card page.

I am saddened but not surprised that most of the buildings in downtown Muskegon are gone. I'm from Toledo and entire streets have been demolished here too (mostly for parking and overblown suburban style hotels). I was once very near Muskegon many many years ago when my Aunt used to live in Norton Shores. Couldn't tell you the name of the street but they lived in a really nice ca 1960s style house less than two blocks from the beach.
