maybe i can learn something now

Hello from the "new" south. Just outside the great[sic] city of charlotte. I am a part-time planing and zoning board member, meaning we all have "real" jobs and do this out of civic pride. New town. Only incorporated about 5 years ago and still working on a prayer and a promise, but at least we now have the expert guidance of the throbbing brain to draw on. Can see already that I will be a frequent visiter and probably ask a lot of questions.

Welcome! You are definitely in the right place. And, in case you haven't yet noticed, there is a new subforum created for folks exactly like you ("Citizen Planners"). But that doesn't mean you can't hang out elsewhere too.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.

    Welcome from Chicagoland!!

I hope you are the one well-reasoned member of your zoning board
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Welcome from Texas! I am the city planner for a city that incorporated about seven years ago, so I feel your growing pains! I always give props to you planning commissioners for serving out of the goodness of your heart!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

I don't know about that, Mendelman. Technically I am just an alternate. I have been called a dreamer, a philosopher, and other things that do not fit into this family oriented forum. And the people seemed to mean it, too!! I do have a job fighting the elitist group, I've got mine, now let's don't let anybody else in. And certainly none of those terrible businesses. Anybody familiar with these sentements? Thanks for the welcome, all.
