    Connecticut Needs a Rock Star

This is my dissertation on a very important topic which I've been researching for quite a while:

    Connecticut needs a rock star.

Connecticut needs a rock star - more so than any state. Think of Connecticut and you think of wealthy NYC suburbs, WASPy coastal towns and peaceful farmland. Outside of the NYC commuter’s grasp, its just like anyplace else. Its got ghettos, run-down mill towns, boring middle class neighborhoods, and small towns of varying quality. Sure some musicians like John Mayer might hail from the state but Connecticut needs its own Bruce Springsteen to waive the flag.

Stuck between New York and Boston, lacking a very large city, professional sports teams, a distinctive accent, cuisine, or other unique things, Connecticut needs a modern day folk hero to capture the nation's eye. Maybe a guy from a run-down Bridgeport neighborhood who’s sick of waiting tables for the better half. Maybe a Hispanic rapper from Hartford who’s pissed at the world. Maybe a Marylin Manson type to get thrown out of Foxwoods. Sure there are more needy parts of the country but the deep south has country/western and Skynyrd, the worst ghettos have rappers, and Flint has Michael Moore.

    Connecticut needs a rock star.

What?!? You mean the Porcaro brothers (born in Hartford) from Toto can't do the job? I mean, have you even asked them to carry the banner?!?

This probably was not what you were looking for -

Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

According to this article, Connecticut already HAS one:
50 Cent - Rapper, Connecticut Resident
50 Cent, the hot rap and hip hop artist, has purchased the mansion formerly owned by Mike Tyson in Farmington, Connecticut. Now that 50 Cent is going to be living in Hartford County, get to know the rapper and his music, and make him feel at home in his new 'hood by downloading a 50 Cent ringtone for your cell phone or sporting an official 50 Cent T-shirt.

50 Cent is from Queens. I don't think it would help his image to advertise that he's now from the mean streets of Farmington, CT.

OT: Can you imagine being neighbors with Mike Tyson? Would you ring his doorbell if his mercedes was blocking your driveway?

Montana will give you Huey Lewis for a pick to be named later.

She's not a rock star, but I'm sure most of us down here in Texas will gladly give you Anna Nicole Smith!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

I'm not from Connecticut (unless a certain employer wants me to be). I just think the state's national image needs a certain something and in my opinion they are the state most in need of a rock star who's proud to be a Connie. Iowa is probably second.

    Perception:
Connecticut = Milk Toast and Bland Things and Rich New Yorkers
North Dakota will always be the red headed step child of cool.....
Iowa is ok, everyone likes farmers...
Arkansas- Red headed step child of NOT COOL.....(wow that's bad )

In reality, Mystic is SWEET and Stonington is better :-P but, both are full of rich rich rich New Yorkers, making them tourist destinations only.....

Surely there must be some up and coming rock stars out of New Haven...

Oh yeah, does anyone remember a 1980s-90s band called Miracle Legion? They were from Connecticut.

OK, so they don't really qualify as ROCK STARS, and the band is no longer together...

    Not a Rock Star but...

Shane McMahon, Joey Abs, and Pete Gas of the "Mean Streets (of Greenwich) Posse" are CT's Boss. I think a picture says a million words:

When Frederick Law Olmstead can stage a free concert at the New Haven Green and spark riots with his urgent message of rock . . . then he'll live up to this role.

When hipsters flock from New York to try to make it in the same clubs as Frederick Law Olmstead . . . then he'll live up to this role.

When Frederick Law Olmstead can take Sen. Leiberman on a Bono-style tour of the state's worst neighborhoods. . . then he'll live up to this role.

Again, John Mayer, despite calling my body a wonderland, doesn't live up to this role either.
