Thread: Goodbye, Dan (Rather)...

    Goodbye, Dan (Rather)...

...Rather. CBS News Anchor retires after 24 years in the anchor chair. Personally, I've always found him to be a smarmy wise@ss sort and if I had control of the clicker, over to NBC or ABC I went.

(Dan) Made a small edit to the thread title. I'm going nowhere, personally.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

OK, I'll stop being ugly and wish him the best. Good luck!

Any guesses at who replaces him?

Man, the thread title threw me off!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Well, it seems that Rather is out like a cross-dresser at a Bible-belt family picnic.

Now, come on eG. CBS can't possibly have anyone worse to replace him. Could they?

I'm sure there is a poll in there somewhere. Let's toss out a few goon names:

    Michael Moore
    Al Franken
    George Stephanoupolis (sp?)
    Kent Brockman

Actually, Dan Rather's politics were not really the issue with me. Whether liberal or conservative, most of the hosts let their politics influence their broadcasts. What bothered me about Rather is his style. He came off as an attention-seeking phony. He is a second-rate celebrity who thinks he is something more.

Who will probably be on Letterman next week. Yuck. (and and for you Barrack Obama fans, he is on Letterman Friday.) I don't particularly enjoy Dave's interviews with non entertainment folks.

I've never been a Rather fan. I'd much rather watch Brokaw and I enjoyed his books. Damn it, I left his books in Idaho. *RJ kicks and spills red wine on the carpet.*

What an anti Rather thread. CBS is a staple for us, guess it is all in what you are used to. We were just discussing who would take the seat once Rather steps down. Rather was the clear choice when Cronkite retired. But no clear choice stands out in my mind for this replacement.
It is all a matter of perspective!!!

I have to say I have always had respect for the man, I can't forget the picture of him standing in a foxhole in 'nam with tracer rounds coming in all around him. It is somewhat unfortunate since he is one of the few last 'real' newsies. Brokaw's gone next week. Not too many from the old school left.
