Wanna' know what happened to Hopkin Green Frog?

You can read about it here..

Terry will never, ever know that Hopkin was found. From the site:

Quote:
The person who drew the flier is a sixteen-year-old boy who suffers from autism. His father was unaware that his son may have made more than one batch of fliers (it appears that new fliers were hung in May of 2004). He did know about the loss of the frog and I believe that he knew about the first batch of fliers.

He also did not want me to give the frog to his son. He’s forgotten it, he told me. Bringing it up again will probably only bring up a bunch of bad memories.

He was quite unaware of the interest in the frog and the flier on the internet. He reiterated that he did not think it would be a good idea to show the sites to his son.
Now, don't you feel terrible?

Good find, Dan The Man. Do I feel terrible? Not especially. Don't think you do either, 'cause you didn't change the little comment at the bottom.

Heh heh heh....

Even if it was true I don't think it was intended as a mean spirited fling at any individual. It was funny because it was wierd and out of context. Really no different from 'All your base are belong to us' - it wasn't any kind condemnation of Japanese culture. Even though I didn't happen to contribute to the Hopkin frog phenomenon, I wouldn't feel badly if I had.

P.S. I'll think you right.

So there's a 16 year-old autistic boy running around Seattle putting up fliers about his missing Beannie Baby by himself and without his parents knowledge? I don't buy it.

My oldest son might have qualified for a diagnosis of autism as a toddler, had he seen the right expert. For some things, he requires enormous repetition and he needs a lot of stuff explained to him that normal people don't need explained. However, he was explaining physics to me when he was 13 -- talking real slow and using little words for his "dumb" mom -- and his IQ is almost certainly over 200. His handwriting looks a lot like the handwriting in the flyer, but he types faster than I do (in spite of typing with only 2 fingers). From time to time, he publishes stories at fanfiction.net. When he posts to the cognitive sciences discussion group I run, I have trouble keeping up with his very long e-mails (longer than mine usually are) and I get overwhelmed with trying to follow his points because I do not have as strong a science background as he has.

He has received a high degree of support to help him overcome his weaknesses but he isn’t really that unusual for someone on the autistic spectrum. What used to be called “high functioning autism” now gets called “Asperger’s Syndrome” and there are several other related disorders. Looking back at history, a number of well known geniuses fit the profile for autism or asperger’s, including Einstein and Michelangelo.* Autistics are weird but not necessarily "retards". FWIW, my oldest son was always in "special ed" when he was in public school but was never ID'd as gifted by them. When he was 11, much to my shock, I was casually informed that my "retard" and "problem child" was substantially more gifted than his brother who made straight A's and was qualified for the gifted program in 3 states. Our present school system classifies people as EITHER "gifted" OR "special ed" and has no effective means to deal with the large number of children who fit both categories. Such kids are increasingly homeschooled.

*I have lots more resources where that came from because I am in the process of expanding my 8 or 9 page brief overview of my view of Asperger's Syndrome. But I doubt anyone in this forum wants to hear me go on for 6 pages off the cuff about what I know on the topic.

I just hope the guy who's looking for his lost puppy, "Waggy brown dog", doesn't start handing out fliers with candy as the reward.

Is this thing on? Tough crowd tonite huh

Over 80 images now, including a frog on toast at auction on ebay. Still funny, IMHO.

Hopkin Green Frog sightings at the bottom of this page.

The newest frog meme isn't so innocent. (http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/foul-bachelor-frog , NSFW for language)
