To those outside of North America ...

... let's see some street scenes of where you live. I mean ordinary commercial districts, residential neighborhoods, the kind of places you would encounter in your day-to-day life.

There has to be subdivisions in New Zealand, and shopping plazas in the UK. Let's see 'em!

I'll show you some normal, everyday things that I see ...

A street in my neighborhood in Ocoee, Florida.

A trademark clay road in the town where I work. The majority of residents don't want the remaining clay roads to be paved.

The view from my car, if I take the fast way to work. Work is progressing on a beltway around the Orlando metro.

The view from my car, if I take the long way to work. The road split around the trees is the symbolic eastern entrance to the town.

15-17 minutes long, 8-10 minutes short.

The short commute includes a 50 cent toll.

    Dan,

What do you do in winter? Don't your public works folks complain about plowing snow on those clay streets? And don't they turn to mud when it thaws in Spring?

(OK, just a reminder of the joys of living in the north.)

I've been trying to talk the Town Manager into getting a snowplow for such emergencies, but he doesn't see it as a worthwhile expense of Town funds.

Hey, if the engineers want the roads to be designed to they can handle six fire trucks driving side-by-side, I want a snowplow!
