I'll pipe up too after lurking for some time.
Used to be a Cat 3 racer before training began consuming ALL my time. Still ride, just no staring at the heart rate monitor for hours on end!
I'm a former / recovering planner who now works in crime prevention (CPTED) for a local police agency. Planning got to be such a drag. 'Quality development' meant brick foundations, non-cantilevered chimneys, and paved driveways. Yeah, whatever, just ignore all that sprawl you continue approving. And make sure you have split-faced block on that new Best Buy because otherwise our citizens might rise up in anger and storm the hallowed third floor offices of the county manager. But I digress...
This is a great site and an entertaining read. Hope to contribute something other than the sarcasm.

I first became interested in CPTED while studying Criminology, and now I'm working on national CPTED guidelines for New Zealand. No regulations or codification yet: there is a lot of CPTED being implemented around New Zealand, but pretty much ad-hoc at present. A couple of our larger local authorities have published their own design guides. Hence, this project to produce national guidelines.
