    Yet ANOTHER cyclist

I'll pipe up too after lurking for some time.

Used to be a Cat 3 racer before training began consuming ALL my time. Still ride, just no staring at the heart rate monitor for hours on end!

I'm a former / recovering planner who now works in crime prevention (CPTED) for a local police agency. Planning got to be such a drag. 'Quality development' meant brick foundations, non-cantilevered chimneys, and paved driveways. Yeah, whatever, just ignore all that sprawl you continue approving. And make sure you have split-faced block on that new Best Buy because otherwise our citizens might rise up in anger and storm the hallowed third floor offices of the county manager. But I digress...

This is a great site and an entertaining read. Hope to contribute something other than the sarcasm.

Welcome from the hilly part of southern sunny Indiana. Sarcasm is okay, especially if you've been stuck doing planning h*ll: current planning.

    You need to watch for threads by JNL, our kiwi crime prevention planner. :-}

    Welcome frm Chicagoland!!!

Good to hear that someone has moved out of planning. I, like Gedunker, am stuck in current planning hell. I'm almost completely fed up with it and I don't even have 2 years under my belt yet.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

The ends can justify the means.

    Welcome, from central new york.

I'd actual welcome doing some current planning for a change of pace. I guess I'm kinda strange that way.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Welcome! I first became interested in CPTED while studying Criminology, and now I'm working on national CPTED guidelines for New Zealand. No regulations or codification yet: there is a lot of CPTED being implemented around New Zealand, but pretty much ad-hoc at present. A couple of our larger local authorities have published their own design guides. Hence, this project to produce national guidelines.

I also work for the city council as community safety coordinator, so I get involved in safety initiatives at a local level too.

Welcome to Cyburbia - I look forward to your contributions

Welcome! You will find many a burned out planner here-enjoy!
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"
