    Greetings from Illinois

Greetings from the northern suburb of Chicago known as Waukegan. This is my hometown and I can actually say it's great to be back. Many things are making the turn for the better as far as redevelopment in the community and it's nice being part of a great planning team and being able to set good policy. My forte is in Urban Design and Planning Law. Sometimes I've considered actually going to law school, but I don't want to be equated with used car salesmen, so being a planner puts me above those (in most cases). I will definitely be asking for advice as well as willing to give advice. Happy New Year!

    Welcome from Indiana.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Welcome from the Northwest Highway corridor.

I almost applied for a planner position in Waukegan last year, but it wasn't feasible due to where I live.

As for law school, don't do it....it's unnecessary, and a pain the arse. My wife is currently at DePaul law and it sucks.

I'll have to visit Waukegan one of theses days, though.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

I'm very glad to be here. While I had a well-rounded experience by taking care of many planning issues in my previous job, this job allows me to excell at what I enjoy most.

Please don't tell me you're a badger alum!

    Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome from the Hill Country of Texas!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Welcome from Florida. (We were almost transferred to your neck of the woods a couple of years back but chose to go to DC where we experienced snow for the first time. Couldn't take the cold so I moved back home. I do hear that your area of Illinois is nice. )

Not a Badger alum, but a Husky. I "escaped" ten years ago and this past summer moved on to the Front Range. Since I grew up on the North Shore I am very familiar with Waukegan. One of my closest friends owned a business there and now deals real estate in the area. I can't say it is a place I would want to live... but it would be a challenging and potentially rewarding place to work.

Greetings while I watch the Ohio River rise along my Indiana shoreline. Expected to crest 1.5' above flood stage. Now, where did I put those nasty old floodgates?

    Welcome from Colorado.

I had a cousin that lived where you do once....
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

Welcome from the Washington DC metro area!

Did you happen to see the article in Sunday's tribune about the Waukegan theater renovation? I'd link it if I only knew how...

I've been "indirectly" involved in the Theatre project almost from day one when we had our satellite office next door while the new City Hall was built. From what I remember the theatre looking like in the 80's compared to now, it's unbelievable. The capacity has been increased to 2500 (from 1800), the stage floor has been doubled in size to bring in the big shows, the balcony has been expanded and brought forward with box seats along the sides, and there isn't a bad seat in the house. We've had some good shows so far and all have sold out in a matter of hours. I'm just waiting for when the calendar gets completely booked.

I've suggested that they name one of the first-floor lounges in the theatre after Jerry Orbach, a semi-native of Waukegan (born in NY, lived in Waukegan during his youth). They could have photographs, artifacts, and the like that could not only be viewed from the inside, but the outside as well with its large windows. He was actively involved in theater here. He was on the honorary Board of Director for the Genesee Theatre and it would have been nice to have him at the grand re-opening. Unfortunately, health was going down before then.

One lot of redevelopment prevents a block of sprawl.
