    Avondale Estates near Atlanta

The aftermath of the successful effort of the City of Decatur and
Avondale Estates to block the construction of a typical crappy Wal-mart
on the site of a dead and deteriorated enclosed shopping mall
(Columbia/Avondale Mall) could potentially provide an opportunity to
extend the good urbanism of Decatur and Avondale Estates southward into
    the dying proto-sprawl paralleling I-20.

I've written a little about it in a profile of Avondale Estates at

Quite nice pre-war suburb, Larry. It reminds me a bit of Mariemont, a very pleasant planned Cincinatti suburb, or maybe the Lakeshore Homes/Crocker Highlands neighborhood in Oakland, CA.(a beautiful area!).

It made me think of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Some era, same vintage. It's odd that even though I once lived in the south (North Carolina) it always surprises me when I see neighborhoods in the south that look like the midwest.
