The Gang of Four album is one of my favorites from that era and I was lucky enough to see them perform at Coachella a few years ago.
Aren't they great?? I saw Gang of Four once back in the day - 1983? - it was around the time that the song "To Hell with Poverty" came out. Awesome show. Hubby and I drove to Northampton, MA to see the reunited Gang of Four a few years ago, too. Such an amazingly talented band.

I love to listen to music videos on YouTube. Here are links to three of my current favorites.

    Sophia Madeliene: http://boingboing.net/2011/07/21/sop...ine-pla-3.html

She did 30 cover songs to promote her CD a few years back. Also her song "You Are My Favorite" is awesome and she did one version of this song where she invited people to video their versions of the song then spliced them into a compilation, which is awesome (watch for the girl with the painted on moustache and her dad - too cute)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xidqc5amcg

Dan Hardin is amazing. Amazing voice and vocal style. Amazing guitar mastery. "Dirty Old Town" is maybe his best cover, but "Take Me to the Mardi Gras" and others are great too.

    This one is just hilarious.

    Day 13:
    • Anton Bruckner, Symphony No. 7
    • Etta James, Tell Mama
    • M83, Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts

The M83 album is one of my favorite ambient/electronica albums and reading up on the Etta James album I just found that it was recorded in Muscle Shoals... this should be another good day.

The Nightfly is on the Vatican newspaper's list of best rock albums ever. It is definitely a pretty cool album. I have that on vinyl actually.

    Day 17:
    • Funkadelic, Maggot Brain
    • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Déjà Vu
    • Jane's Addiction, Ritual de lo habitual

I could probably stop this project now because I will never get such an awesome random list selection from the list again.

    Day 18:
    • Britney Spears, Toxic [single]
    • Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power
    • Jimmy Cliff and Various Artists, The Harder They Come - Original Soundtrack

I'm generally not a fan of Britney Spears, or that kind of music in general, but thankfully the book only recommends the actual single and not the full album it was found on. And following it up with Pantera will be a good palate cleanser.

Palate cleanse? I'd recommend a hose down with a powerful disinfectant, followed with a shower. Rinse and repeat.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate.
