I am in the process of converting all of my Steeley Dan vinyl to CD. A slow process with the older equipment I have.

    The White Stripes

We are taking the kids to see the White Stripes in Sydney tonight. It is a family Christmas present. The youngest two (12 & 14) haven't been to a rock concert before so it should be fun to see their reaction to the noise and intensity of the event.

The Greenhorns are supporting - don't know anything about them. Any Cyburbanites want to review them?

Somewhat OT: Some moron in the neighborhood is doing the thumpy-thumpy make you lose your mind music and it's almost 10:30 on a work night. Time for ZG to jump in the vehicle and find out whose idiot kid is disturbing the whole area and call the sheriff. hahahahaha....

It's old, but I kinda like the song:

If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman
If I’m alive and well, will you be there a-holding my hand
I’ll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
    Kryptonite

OK, everybody close your eyes….actually, you really don’t want me to answer that. I would get a reprimand far worse than the dreaded red card. I mean, the NSA would start listening to my cell phone calls, recording my text messages….oh, that reminds me, I gotta go do some text message erasing… Budgie, stop that

    Loved It

On Saturday, 1-28-06, after finishing a home project I plopped down on the couch (davenport, sofa) and turned on VH1 Classic. Here are the first four (4) music videos that were playing:

Whipping Post (Live Allman Brothers Band, recent vintage)
You Can't Always Get What You Want (Live Rolling Stones, about 1972)
After the Goldrush (Live Neil Young, about 1985)
We Want The Funk (Parliament / Funkadelic)

I turned them up MAX VOLUME and Katie stormed into the room.

"What the hexx are you listening to? That hurts my ears!"

I loved those first four (4) selections.

that #2 was their new tune - i heated up my green tea during that one

it's amazing they are still up there - but mick's voice was a little hoarse - like he can't strut and sing at the same time anymore - not that it should come to a surprise to anyone, i mean, it's really okay -

my 12 year old asked me why are they still singing at their age and i tried to explain that their music is really timeless and we all still want to see them perform but then he gets up there and you think, well that's okay, just kidding...

    Super Bowl Halftime

The Super Bowl went very well (Go Steelers! ). I was in a loud tavern and the halftime music wasn't as clear as I would have liked.....crowd noise, the people around me, etc.

The choice of the Rolling Stones was upsetting to a number of factions. Many complained that they are an English group and this is "America's" event. Many complained that the show should have showcased Detroit's many (and varied) artists.

A good argument has been made that the focus should have been on the original Motown sound. This Bear grew up in the 60's and that great sound was around me forever.....CKLW, "The Big 8". I have a big Motown collection.

Another good argument has been made that the NFL should have focused on the newer sounds from Detroit.....Eminem, White Stripes, Kid Rock. That would probably not fly because today's NFL and network affiliations are afraid of offending somebody with an exposed breast or a word that is sooooooo bad. (Get a life.)

The stage for The Stones was awesome. Call me a geek but I would rather see how that puppy was constructed, transported, and assembled and disassembled than see Mick perform. (And I love the Rolling Stones!) The logistics of that stage
set-up had to be quite "cool".

Parting thought: How can you really expect much from any performing artist when you give them a time slot for three (3) short tunes?

I believe Kid Rock performed (with Aerosmith?) at a super bowl halftime show a few years ago.

This is milk-through-the-nose, pee-in-your-pants funny! I sent it to my husband who is a HUGE Swedish death metal fan, though really for the kitsch factor. Very funny.

I've been listening to the Gorillaz "Demon Days" - can't get that booty-shaken' "Feel Good, Inc." out of my head. Earworm...
