    [rant]
My office has been suffering from a severe donut deficiency over the past year, a condition of which I have spoken about to management, co-workers, and captive friends and family members on multiple occasions.

I was hoping that today, Fat Tuesday, in Metro Detroit (possibly the biggest Paczki eating region in the nation!), that the drought in my office would at long-last be over and some generous soul would have found it fitting to bring some of those tasty, sugar and fat filled, pastry treats to work today. But alas, the drought continues!

And as the low man on the totem pole, barely above the unpaid interns, I of course cannot afford to bring in Paczkis for all... and just like in the first grade, if I don't have enough for everybody, I should not bring in the treats.

My only hope is that my wife works in a more festive office than I do and she is able to smuggle me out some raspberry or custard filled goodness... if it is prune or apple filled, I may just have to send her back!

This morning I stopped by a Meijer petrol place to get some of that yummy gas station capuccino. BIG boxes of paczki by the register. I opened my coat to display a wild array of MG beads worn over my purple crawdad T-shirt.

Picked these up in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood. I got apricot, rose petal, raspberry and prune. I'm sure I could of found some at the supermarket but felt I should get them from a Polish owned bakery which isn't too hard in Chicago.

And here it is from the outside. Polish on the sign is always a good sign.

    Poon-Ch-Key, Baby !!!

Here comes Fat Tuesday. Bring on the paczki! Yum. (And this Bear is not supposed to have sugar.)

Tons of Polish folk in the Toledo area. Plenty of traditional paczki to be found.

Must remember to get these tomorrow. Of course I think they're available more than once a year, but tomorrow a good a day as any to pick some up.

Picked up two dozen at my corner this morning for work. $17.98! I suppose I can't complain as they are the official pazcki of U.S. Rep John Dingell (or so the sign says)

I just polished off one here (or maybe I Polished one off?) that had the heft of a brick. just the way I like them!

I had to make it a point this morning to ask my wife to sneak me one back from her office if they have them.

It's also fitting that my Girl Scout Cookies were delivered today, it being Fat Tuesday and all...

329? Thats a Diet Pazcki! Generally they are accepted to start to around 500 calories for a decent one and some places brag about selling 800 calorie ones!

    Clomp Clomp Chomp Chomp

Clomp clomp. Sound of Bear's footsies heading for the paczkis.
Chomp chomp. Sound of Bear's toofies gobbling the paczkis.

Bloodsugar level be damned.....at least for a day.

Fat Tuesday is nearly here. Go forth and clomp and chomp. And remember: It is pronounced "poonshkee".

    The singular form

    From http://www.everything2.com/title/paczek

Pączek. Pronounce it halfway between "Pon-chek" and "Pawn-chek"

I saw them in the grocery store the other day and thought of you. There's a fairly large Polish population in and around Garfield, NJ which is where they were baked. Might have to give one a try.

    Arggggg!

This Bear is a freakin' jerk. I just remembered that I scheduled lab work for early Wednesday morning. The needlework (ouch!) requires a 14-hour fast. And prior to the fast I need to watch my food intake, perhaps a little closer than usual, for bloodsugar issues.

    Tuesday is paczki day.

Just one paczki for me and it will be very early on Tuesday morning.

Who is the idiot that scheduled this? Oh wait.....it was me.

I was up extra early this morning with plans to go to the gym but decided to walk to the bakery for a box of pączki and go to Starbucks for a coffee instead. I ate two before I even made it back home. But I figured since I was walking there and back, that was acceptable!

When I walked into the bakery at about 5:30 a.m. there was a man of about 85-years-old waiting to the side and as I picked up a freshly packed box from the counter he told me that if I waited a few more minutes like he was, they would be putting out pączki made with half the fat. I had to scratch my head since I could not figure out at all what the appeal of that was.
