No and no. It's not a large city; what you see in the second photo is pretty much the whole city.

I think the "polizia" car limits the options to a city in Italy

Right island, wrong cittá. It's Trapani, Sicily.

The image from the aerial tram is looking westward (sun angle) and it is the only place in Italy that matches the coastline with islands a short distance offshore. It's on the far western end of Sicily.

Correct! The pics are from my trip there in October. Sicily was the highlight and Trapani was a great place to visit, very traditional and some fantastic fresh seafood! The cable car ride was pretty cool - it goes up to the top of Monte Erice which was a medieval fortress. You can totally see why from the top - it has views for 100s of kms in all directions. Here are a couple of pics from the top:

The best part was going to the nearby island of Favignana, just off the coast, in the Egadi Islands. Shall I make you jealous with pics from there too? It was a gamble going there as I knew next to nothing about it beforehand, but it turned out to be just as nice as, if not nicer than, some of the Greek Islands! And not many tourists! Hired a bike and rode around the island stopping off for a swim at all these beautiful beaches.... I want to go back!
