    Kind of related.

Does anyone else have a person or people that you need only mention their first name and everyone knows who you are talking about? (Like Cher, Elvis, Kermit)

These people are not known for the positive reasons.

Yes - Richard, Lynn, and Harrold. Prudence, did I miss any?

A woman came to the office and asked for the minutes for the August 20th Plan Commission meeting. I replied, not thinking, "you mean the agenda." Her disdain with my callous remark obvious, expressed "NO. The MINUTES. I was told I could get the minutes TODAY.

I tried, to no avail, to explain that minutes CANNOT be available without a meeting being held. That the minutes arethe record of the meeting...and that she could get the agenda today, the staff comments at the end of the week, and the MINUTES the Friday after the meeting. She stormed away...towards the Mayor's Office. Another satisfied customer.

Can people just accept when they make a mistake? Is it that big a deal to be wrong once in a while?

We are all human beings. We cannot possible understand everything about everything. I don't think less of someone for misunderstanding something. I do think less of someone who believes they are infallable.

    You know it's Monday when...

We have a little "junkyard" problem, created by the Planning Commission themselves, in a multiple use district. This guy has never... in the entire 3 years of the permit... ever... been in compliance with the conditional use permit.

So the one neighbor hates the place. I hate the place. Most of the town, aside from some very smelly friends of the owner, hate the place.

Did they revoke the permit in March as I asked? No. They gave him 3 months to come into compliance. Has he? No. Now, they are going to revoke the permit and have him re-apply. Will they re-issue the permit? Probably... they have no idea how to say "no".

So I get the neighbor this morning... in person... before coffee.

Neighbor: Do you know how many violations are over there?

Me: Yes, it'll be in my staff report.

Neighbor: Did you know he doesn't have a DMV permit?

Me: Yes, it'll be in my staff report.

Neighbor: The junked parts and the old 'fridge are outside the fence. Did you see that?

Me: Yes, it'll be in my staff report.

Neighbor: Check the zoning... can you see it doesn't fit?!

Me: Yes, it'll be in my staff report.

    Neighbor: And... and...

Me: Stop, Stewart... stop. I have a staff report to write, and when it's done, you can get it. Then comment on it to the Planning Commission! I understand your frustration, now understand mine.

I don't suffer the fools on Monday morning before 9 a.m.

Yes, and one of these now bills herself as a "consultant" on land use and zoning issues for neighborhood associations!

It rained 6 inches in 2 days this week.

Caller: "Hi. I have a complaint."

    Planner: "Go ahead."

C: "There's water in the ditch in front of my house."

P: "That's what ditched are for."

C: "Oh. Never mind. Thank you."

Um can you send that rain this way?

We need it bad round these parts

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

We needed it too, but the ground was sooo dry and hard and the rain came so fast that we had very little absorption and alot of run off. Of course, we've had something like 19 or 20 ninety degree days since summer officially started...

Ok... I guess this thread is hijacked. The last few weeks we've been getting rain. But we are in the middle of the worst drought in over 130 years here in Alberta. Farmers are killing livestock because they can't feed them. Pretty scary stuff.

Send beef. We'll send water...in powder form. (It's up to you to figure out what to add...)

    COD

    Caller (acutally Planner): Hello, Cyburbia??

    Cyburbia: "Yeah?"

CP: "Uh-huh, well see, I have a complaint."

C: "Yeah." (tone implying 'oh jeez, here we go.....)

CP: "Ok, so like I started this thread about Calls of the Day"

C: "Sorry, did you say Call of Dismay??"

CP: "No, no. Call of THE DAY. Like when you get a caller that asks questions that seem SO ridiculous that you can't believe it and you just have to tell others.........."

    C: "Kinda like this one???"

CP: "Yeah, yeah.............wait, are you making fun of me??"

C: "No (snicker), just trying to understand."

CP: So I created this thread and now people are talking about rain and I don't know what to do.

C: Try this - Take a deep breath and hold it.
I wonder if birds know it's Tuesday?

When someone posts something that shifts the entire focus of the thread away from the original subject. Here from phone calls to rain.

Some people hate it - Some say let the thread go where it wants. I do it all the time. I don't mean too - it is just how my brain works.

    I'll hjack it back

Caller: Umm I want to know who to talk to about Drug Town selling amunition.

Me: Drugtown does not sell ammo (I have looked there before)

Caller: Yes they do, they have pallets full of boxes stored outside marked "radioactive"

Me: (guessed that the were selling surplus ammo boxes) Oh, if you are that concerned you had better call the police (also figured they needed a laugh too)

Caller: Oh I hadn't thought of that!

    Editorial comment:

Ok, so you think that radio active tipped 30mm amunition is stored outside by the pallet load and you call the PLANNER? And you don't even think about calling the police? I just don't get it......
