    Company Car

So who here gets a vehicle issued by their employer? What do you get? And who would like one of these American made beauties?

    can u trash pile

    some 1990-1993 Ford Tempo's

a whopping 4 cyl's of struggling power, pathetic acceleration all within a faded, non-glossy, silver exterior.

i tried to kill one of the cars, but public works fixed it..

however, the three crap cars are shared between 20 people.
Dude, I'm cheesing so hard right now.

We have several early 90's vintage Ford Escorts, a couple of Crown Vic's, a Bronco, and an Explorer.

Our department has a decommission squad, we rarely take it home as a 'company car' since so many of us live outside of the community.

We use our own. We get a car allowance of $250 a month which is supposed to cover anything under fifty miles. If a trip is over fifty miles, we get reimbursed for the extra miles at the going federal government rate.

The City has an assortment of early 90s chevy cavaliers for use by planners. I always use my own car because a) the cavs are really really bad, and b) the city requires that you get a "City Operators Permit" before they let you use the pool cars.

I personally would LOVE to drive around in a old police car. Unless they've been modified back to their orginal spec, those are some pretty powerful cars...

Yeah, but embarrassing as hell when you smoke the tires at the drive through.

Nothing. I use the Passat. I don't even get reimbursed for mileage; I have to deduct it from my federal income tax.

Old police cruisers get swapped out every two or three years. The town doesn't keep 'em .... they're traded to other police departments in exchange for services, such as pistol range time.

I won't get a city car until the cops confisgate one that's nice enough to keep. Most drug traffickers use rental vehicles, which can't be seized. The stuff cops seize here are usually old vans from the early 1970s, pimped out late 1970s Chevrolet Impalas, and other such vehicles that aren't appropriate for day-to-day municipal use.

Planning agency cars are like offices. Your agency has the worst ones around, while those in other agencies throughout the same metro area get blessed with new luxury vehicles. The grass is always, without question, greener on the other side.
Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell. -- Edward Abbey

Up here they have you use your own car and then they reimburse you at $0.35/k (or something like that... I just think "little dollar/little mile"). This works out pretty well, because I have a pickup truck that allows me to get up and around in the winter better than most pool cars.

However, I must say that when I was in the City of Vancouver WA, the Development Review department had those ex-police vehicle Crown Victorias. There was one that still had its extendo-spotlight-dealie on the driver side (you know... those lights on the moveable arm). But anyway, it was fun on field visits... you'd turn the corner in one of those puppies and people would drop what they're doing and scatter. It was amusing to watch people that were speeding suddenly slow down. I loved going on site visits in those cars, just made my day .

Dan, I think it would be great to drive around in a pimped out 1970s van with one of those cheesy air-brushed paintings on the side, of whales or something corny, with fringe and velvet.. bring on the afro wig too!

How much fun could you have pulling up to ticket someone for violating the sign ordinance with an afro wig with George Clinton pumping out of a crazy van?

It could be the Pimpin' Plannin' Van!
