Poll 2: Where to meet in San Francisco? (APA 2005 Laefest)

    One more time:

Mastiff's original Linky, with information on the three "old" choices in this new poll.

The new choices (also provided by Mastiff):

    Johnny Foley's

    LJ's Martini Club and Grille

    Gold Dust Lounge

I voted Johny Foley's because it would seem to complement our purposes best (ie. getting to know the physical manifestations of a group of people we already know in cyberspace).

The Gold Dust Lounge is in the right location and reads like it would suit us but in the absence of a web link, I went with the conservative choice. LJ's looks more like a couples hang out IMO.

My logic was similar. There isn't enough information available on the Gold Dust Lounge for my comfort. It seems like a gamble as to how well it would work. And, given the 'one shot' nature of this gathering, I would rather go with a good choice that is more sure than something which MIGHT be even better....but we really don't have any basis to judge the probability of that (no pictures, no menu, etc). I also like the more varied menu at Foley's. I don't drink a lot of alcohol and I will undoubtedly need to eat while we are there. A diverse group of folks, from all over, will probably do better, overall, with a bigger selection of food on the menu.

    So, it looks like Foleys.

Count me in! (Although if the Utes win their game Thursday, I may be forced to sit within sight of a television)

Do we want/need to make a reservation? If so, I think we need a ballpark figure on How Many people will show. Do we want to post those answers publically or have folks pm me??? (or a little of both?)

As I understand it, this is for 6:00pm Saturday Night at Foley's. There is still time to make adjustments to the time, I suppose.

LOL, true. I'm not drinking anymore so I can be the DD if needed.

Rems are two for Saturday. I am also holding on to the idea of a NAPA Valley trip on Thursday - I have a friend (young and attractive male - prone to be led astray) coming in from Sydney before Thursday who is interested in joining us - that would be 3 for the wineries. Cardinal was keen to lead us into temptation but seems to have gone quiet. NAPA Valley Thursday? Please PM MZ if you are participating. I'm only forcing this issue for spokanite wo will miss Saturday, my own viticultural pleasures couldn't be further from my mind.

You are truly, truly a giver REM. I appreciate your altruism. I can't make a Thursday jaunt, but anything from sunday through wednesday is alright with me (the rock anyone?). Two of my fav. wineries you should consider - Heitz for port and Grgich Hills if you like chardonnay.

    Lemme know.

That makes 10 for Saturday (since you voted in the poll, you were already counted, but the Missus wasn't). I can call to make reservations, if folks want -- when we have some idea how many there will be.

I didn't have any particular plans to go to any wineries since I don't drink and all. Perhaps you can talk me into it. [kidding]How old did you say this straying attractive male is? [/kidding]

Actually, with 15 years experience with Army Family Support Groups, I don't mind being the point person. I am Highly Qualified.

I am really a very Boring individual and not up for all this touristy stuff. But I eat like a hobbit (breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies -- I can do that with a genetic disorder, ). Anyone know if Moscone West has a decent eatery where we might hook up on Sunday (for lunch perhaps)?

    Count me out.

I am allergic to shellfish (and not too keen on seafood generally since my allergy became so bad) and I get food poisoning too easily to eat raw fish safely.

The union square area, basically on the other side of Market St from Moscone, has a ton of restaurants. If I remember correctly, there was a pretty good deli on Market Street in that general vicinity.

I just checked the extended forecast, and true to form, rain showers expected just about every day

I'd be up for it, but I'm strictly an amateur and would be solely dependant on the good advice of more experienced palates.

The reminds me: the last time I had real sushi was in 1987 during a 5 hour flight layover in SF. Friends picked me up at the airport, filled me w/ good sushi and cold Coronas, and then dropped me back for my connection flight. Good times.
