As a starter, I would like to know whether Florida is a good place to work. I am not too familiar with the working environment in the planning field in the US. More so, does anyone know anything about the Planning Department in Palm Beach area(s)?

Florida is a great place to work - the cost of living is cheap, there's lots of planning to do, and you can advance very quickly. YTo get a leg up - familiarize yourself with the state growth management codes, so you'll have a leg up on those candidates who don't know it, even if you're just going for a planner I slot.
The Palm Beach area will have multiple planning agencies: city, county, regional planning council (this will encompass a multi-county area). There are also many private consulting firms in South Florida. A directory of Florida planning agencies is available through the Fl. Department of Community Affairs website. You can get there through www.myflorida.gov. State growth management and comprehensive planning regulations are also available through this site.

lots of jobs in Florida. Need to read chapter 163 prior to an interview. Best to get with a Floridan cyburbian before an interview to get you preped like we did Richmond Jake. If you want to work in the Palm Beach area, check cities, counities, FDOT has a district office in Fort Lauderdale, don't forget regional planning council and MPO sites.

First, brew yourself up a big pot of coffee. Then do a google search for Florida Statutes. And also look for the Admin Code 9J ... something or another, I think. I have it bookmarked at work. I can post the link Monday. Don't memorize it just understand the concepts.
