Would you rather:
1. Own a '52 Ford Pickup restored to mint condition;
2. Own a '52 Ford pickup that is in decent, runable, original condition; or
3. Own a '52 Ford pickup that has been rodded?

Say Huh???
I guess I'll take the restored one.
67 fast back mustang, mint, all original parts, dark green with black leather interior... only 24,000k on the engine.. she's beautiful..
but she's my ex's.. damn the man!
When Jesus said "love your enemies", he probably didn't mean kill them.
I'll take "2". I know what you mean.

Thanks, somebody does.Originally posted by El Feo

I'd go with '2', too. Unless, of course, it came free, in which case I'd take the restored one, sell it, and buy a cheaper, unrestored Thunderbird convertible.
My first Ford was a 72 Torino which was "rough." Over the next couple of years I worked on her constantly. Headers, dual 2" pipes running out to Thrush glass packs, high-rise aluminum intake, 600cfm Holly four-barrell, body, paint and more. When she passed away I couldn't bring myself to work on another car. After all these years, it still hurts.
Firstly I'd never own a Ford 'cos I'm loyal to Holden (see "Identify your wheels"), but if I had to choose from your selection I'd definitely pick number 3! But it would have to be in great condition as well.
Holden - that's Kiwi for "Pontiac," right?. The new Monaro will be marketed in the US as the Pontiac GTO. Not bad - for a GM car...but I could never own a Holden, 'cos I'm loyal to Ford. That, and the fact that they don't sell Holdens here.Originally posted by JNL

You're missing out, El Feo. Check out www.holden.com.au.
Australia and New Zealand have an annual V8 Supercar Challenge which is Holdens vs. Fords. Holden have won 4 out of the last 5 years and always dominate the top positions.
I could hijack this thread even further by pointing out the numerous ways that Holdens are superior to Fords (it's a bit of an Australasian thing), but it would take too long....
Is this a deal where I have to keep it permanently?

Sure is, Dan
Actually El Feo, skip the Holden site and go straight to the good stuff at www.hsv.com.au (you need Flash installed). Click on the link 'Cars' and enter my dream world...
In that case, since I can't sell the vehicle and make a profit, I'll take #2 - the '52 Ford pickup that is in decent, runable, original condition. I wouldn't be afraid to use it as a daily driver, hauling bulk mulch or pallets of sod without feeling guilty about scratching the paint job. Maybe take it on a cross-country rod trip, dogs in the back, and frequent stops to overcome vapor lock. I wouldn't trash the beast, but I would use the vehicle for its intended purpose, in a manner that dignifies its continued existence.Originally posted by JNL

As for Holden ... LHD 'em, and use the vehicles to reenergize the Chevrolet division here in the States. The SUV trend will be fading away soon, and there's a lot of renewed interest in sporty, practical sedans - the VW Pasaat, Audi A4 and A6, Nissan Maxima, and Infiniti Q35. The US has nothing to compete ... well, maybe the Contour/Mondeo, but you can't buy new models north of the Mexican border.
How about ... the mighty Hindustan Ambassador!
