Your City's Ex-Pats -- Where Did They Go?

Folks from metro Detroit tend to head out to California or down to Florida (Ft. Lauderdale/Palm Beach in the 70's and 80's, Tampa in the 90's, and Naples and Ft. Myers) and California. Some friends of mine just announced that they are moving to LA in a few weeks. Part of me wants to let the read the thread on traffic in LA. But I'll keep my mouth shut.

I moved down here from Upstate (Grew up outside of Ithaca, did my UG outside of Rochester, and lived in Endicott) in 1998. Seemingly every third person I ran into when I lived in Orlando was originally from upstate. Now that I'm in Tallahassee, it is much rarer of an occurance.

I grew up in an exurb of Milwaukee. Affordable at the time. Our house in 1975 cost $50k. My sister bought it from the parents, remodelled, and now its valued at $400k.

Nowit is an affluent suburb with median new home prices in the $700k's.

So in a nutshell, the people my age moved to the City where they can afford to live.

You are not a true Long Islander if you don't move to southeast Florida. Everyone I know has a place down there or has retired down there. You just gotta have the place in "Flaaarida." Don't see too many downstate NY'ers on the west coast of Fla, just on the east.
