    Star-Gazing In Toledo, Ohio

Forget Hollywood. Stop thinking about NYC. No more Chicago or Toronto watch. For the REAL "star-gazing", come to Toledo, Ohio.

Ahhh, the word is out.....Tom Cruise is no longer available. Sorry, ladies. All the buzz is about Tom now dating actress Katie Holmes. (Nice choice.)

Katie is from Toledo. Actually, I think her parents are in Sylvania.....the northwest suburb of T-Town. When she is in town she stays with her parents, attends Mass at one (1) of the local Catholic churches, and on occasion drinks at the same bar that this Bear goes to.....Frogtown's.

I have never seen her at "Club Frog's", but some of the folks I work with have. Whoppie wow wow.

So, if any Cyburbia residents want to go have a drink and wait for Tom and Katie to make their next appearance at Frog's, let me know when you will be in town.
We can sit and wait together.

(I did go to Frog's last week. The big attraction last Friday was Bear's return to the bottle, after the BMSCT. Katie Holmes wasn't there. Katie the wife of the Bear was. Same dif. )

Sorry, Bear but I don't see what all the fuss is about Katie Holmes. She looks good, I guess (I always she looked kind of like a freak, but that's just me), but she can't act worth a crap.

Though she's perfect fodder for lowbrow TV-trash fare like Dawson's Creek her graduation to the big screen has been forgettable. While I'm sure that my fellow St. Francis grads filled ranks of movie theater seats to see her first nudie scene, I'm rather embarrassed that all Toledo is remembered for is for Katie Holmes.

(We all might as well be watching porn. At least your more likely to see some real acting. )

Phillip Baker Hall of Magnolia and Hard 8 fame (and Bookman on Seinfeld) is much more noteworthy of mention of having hailed from Toledo.

The closest we'll come to bumping into any star in my neck of the woods is maybe you'll rin into Jeff Daniels if you're out and about in Chelsea, MI. Otherwise, celebrity seems to shy away from the mitten state.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

Well let's see, we've got Tommy Lee Jones from San Antonio. Stone Cold Steve Austin shopped at the Albertson's I worked at late at night. I've met several star athletes, including the entire Spurs team (friend is a sports science intern with them). I ran into Morgan Fairchild when she was in town for the broadway version of The Graduate (I went to the show). She seemed really nice.

Austin has the naked bongo player, Mathew McCaunehey(sp?) & Lance Armstrong. Sandra Bullock also hails from Austin, as I recall. Sheryl Crow has been around more... wonder why??

Those are just the few that I can think of off the top of my head.

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Super Cat .....I was just being sarchastic about life in our town. I have never watched a Katie Holmes movie or TV program. I live a sheltered life, you know.

Remember.....some day you will all talk about me in the same reverential tone that you discuss Katie, Tom, Angelina, Brad, and Deb. Or, the same disgusted tone that you use when you discuss Orenthal, Michael, BTK, and Charles.

Person 1 - "So what do you think of Tom Cruise and Toledo's Katie Holmes being together?"

Bear - "I am outraged. Did you see the age difference? Sixteen years! He's a cradle snatcher!"

Person 1 - "But isn't the age difference between you and YOUR Katie fifteen years?"

Bear - "Humna humna humna humna, er...."

I'd join you for a drink, but while I am of age in my country, the United States sees differently.

OK, I started this thread back in April in an attempt at back-handed pokes at my hometown, Toledo. Nearly two (2) months later if I hear one (1) more Toledo news local report on the status of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise.....I will run through the streets screaming!

    I need a beer.

    WARNING TAG: TomKat News
    _____

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are......supposedly.....looking at purchasing one (1) of the big mansions in the ritzy Toledo suburb of Ottawa Hills.

The Village of Ottawa Hills is one (1) of Ohio's richest little places. It is surrounded by Toledo corporate limits. The village is filled with huge estates, many walled-off from public view.

This Bear lived for years on Isha Laye Way, a 1950's brick ranch 3-block long suburban street that ends at the Ottawa Hills High School area. I was in an Ottawa Hills Boy Scout Troop. For years I played basketball in the gym at the school. Many years ago I also played basketball outside of the school, with none other than Tom Sholz. If you know the rock band Boston, you know Tom Scholz.

Ahhh, the life of the rich, the famous, and The Bear......

Maybe the Scientologists can buy up the more desolate blocks downtown now. Pretty soon you'll people with dazed looks wandering around Erie Street or Summit Street in little white sailor uniforms! (I interned in Clearwater, Florida, a creepy place practically owned by the Hubbardrones)
