    Another Michiganian

I must admit that my nick "michiganplanner" is off target as to what I actually do. I am the Economic Development and Housing Coordinator over here in Eaton County, MI. So while I like to think of myself as a "deal maker" I am obsessed with learning all that I can about planning. And I am very pleases to have found cyburbia.

    Welcome from Chicagoland!!

I am a Michigan native (grewup in Alpena) and a alum of UM, living in economic exile here in Chicagoland.

    Post often...
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

The ends can justify the means.

I'm beginning to think that planners in MIchigan do nothing but slack on Cyburbia

    Welcome from sunny central Texas!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

I thought you guys were Michiganders!

Welcome from a rookie planner, residing and working I hour north of Denver, a Notre Dame fan who once spent a day in St. Joseph, MI at the lake.

    The circus is now open.
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

Welcome from SW Indiana in the Central Time Zone.
    Oddball
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here?
Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?
    From Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Are you sure you're not hurt ?
No. Just some parts wake up faster than others.
Broke parts take a little longer, though.

Greetings from a fellow mittenstater. I'm just a few counties to the west (does Ionia County count? They refuse to enact zoning).
SOME say the world will end in fire, Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
    Is also great
    And would suffice.

Hello from Houston, the Land of No Zoning!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

its great to be here. Everyday I learn of some new zoning or planning "quirk" here. I think that planning here can be politely described as ad hoc.

oh and by the way I saw a newspaper (some time ago) waste time and resources on a poll whether we in michigan consider ourselves Michiganders or Michiganians. I forgot what the outcome was. I think for the most part we could be described as freezing or mosquito swatting.

A warm welcome to you from an Ohio resident (NW Ohio) who will eventually be retiring to the Upper Peninsula, so I can shovel the really deep snow and swat the really large skeeters.

Enjoy your stroll through Cyburbia. It's a pleasant place.

It's not a numbers thing, it's a percentage thing. With the forums growing so much, there's room for him (or her).
