    being an academic planner

Is there anyone on here who makes a living as planning/urban studies/etc faculty? My mother is an ecologist and I'm jealous about how much she gets to travel, going to conferences internationally and giving talks, etc. If you get a Ph.D. in urban planning and get a position at a university, are there many opportunities for international conferences and that sort of thing?

    Faculty....

As far as I'm concerned, being a faculty member w/PhD is like being on vacation for the rest of your life......just publish a few items over your career and travel, enjoy summers, sabbatical....on and on and on..... oh and you don't have to put up with the headaches of "doing" whatever it is that your teaching......not to mention dealing with people that aren't beholden to you for silly grades, grants or stipends.....The rest of us poor slobs are stuck trying to make things work out here....

Its great work if you can get it
