I will not be attending the Ann Arbor Alefest this weekend.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

I *might* still be able to come on the 18th, but it will just depend. It really stinks that there is a race that day. We are only 45 minutes from MIS and even our little town gets swamped with traffic. Plus there is construction on 94, and being that MIS is on 12, there is no quick and dirty way to get there with the race going on.

Would another date work better for those people that can't come the 18th?

No matter how this turns out, you Michigan Laefest planners are ahead of the game. The Florida laefesters took about 300 posts to get it together.

And another hundred or so to discuss what happened and censor the photos.

What's your point? And how many players did we have at the Flaefest? A very nice turnout. Michigan is hereby challanged by the Florida Cyburbians. Top that snow monkeys. Plus, we play better pool.

    Did you say "snow monkeys"?

    Grrrrrrrrrrr.........

    We are mighty...
    We are proud...
    We are Michigan...
    Say it loud...

This weekend, thousands (1000's) of Cyburbians will converge on Ann Arbor. You may not recognize them.....they will have on NASCAR colors and hats to throw you off the scent. They will play in the pool better than you. (Did I word that right?)

I will most likely be out as well. I avoid that part of the state during race weekends. Now if we moved the Michigan Laefest to Toledo, OH... then you're talking.

Well, after last nights win, game 5 will be in Detroit. Rooms will be hard to get.

Therefore I will not be heading over to that side of State. I will be sitting at a local bar to watch Detroit Basketball.

My point, which was intended to be a light one, was that's a lot of posts for getting it together to drink lae. No dis on the Floradians, but the Michiganistas seem to be a little more efficient. Of course, it seems like no one is going to show up, so that'll make it easier.

And for your information, I'm not a snow monkey. I'm in Oregon and I'm a rain monkey.

Why didn't one of you think of this earlier? The Michigan laefest in Ohio. What a great idea!! Would it then be called the Mohiogan laefest?

Sooooo....are we rescheduling this fabulous event or what? I can still make it, but I dont want to be sitting in a bar all alone

Maybe we can reschedule for late July/early August. I am game for meeting up in K-zoo, A2 or even Toledo. I rarely cross the state line (especially since OSU beat UM last fall) but will consider it for this occasion only.

p.s. The A2 Art Fair is July 20-23.

If we have one later in the summer in K-Zoo I am willing to set it up. I know that we are going to get togeather at the Michigan APA confrence this fall.

As for A2, I will let someone who know the area better then I to take care of that.

The FAPA conference is actually September 7-10. You can already make hotel reservations on-line at the FAPA website. On-line conference registration looks like it begins June 22. It's probably not too early to start a thread to see who's attending.

    Michigan Laefest Postponed

OK, this thread is starting to look and sound like my workplace. Somebody has to take charge.....

This is Bear speaking. The Michigan Laefest is officially postponed due to:

MIS (Michigan International Speedway) Batman Squeeks Race (No rooms at the inns) ((There are races both Saturday and Sunday))

Pistons still playing, making some folks unavailable

Construction zone hassle on I-94 combined with MIS in-out traffic
(Ironic that a meeting of planners is somewhat idled by traffic issue...)

Few responses to suggestion to hold in some other burg, such as Toledo

It just wasn't in the stars....this is MJ's week for karma
    _____

This Bear will follow-up in coming weeks to determine scheduled dates for the other two (2) race weekends at MIS. urbanchik reported that the big Ann Arbor Art Fair is July 20-23.

Together we have to determine if Ann Arbor is really the best choice. Perhaps michaelskis k-zoo suggestion has merit. We also have to determine the best date, based on locale we pick, what fits the most folks' schedules.

    Thank you, my invisible friends.

Thanks, Bear. I also think another weekend will be better. K-zoo might be the way to go. A2 is more expensive for out of town cyburbians. Thanks for checking out the racing dates.

BTW, I am out of the country July 1-18, so I obviously cannot attend those weekends.

Want cheap? The Viking motel on Grand River in Detroit is stumbling distance from the Motor City Casino and rooms there can't go for more that $30 a night.

I won't be offended by those who would not want this offer. I'll be safe and sound sleeping in my little Detroit Bungalow. Come to think of it, there is an arabic street festival by my house this weekend, you guys would love that, but alas there is no beer, thats why we can't have it here (liberally stolen from polka tune 'in heaven there ain't no beer').

    Thanks Bear for taking charge!!

Hey, can we do a poll of Saturdays to see which one has the best chance of getting the most people here?

I am flexible for location - Kzoo, A2, Lansing.
