I was reminded to post this when I read another thread and people were thinking that someday the Allegheny Mtns would be "excavated" further for coal. Part of the Peak oil discussion. Lots more easily accessible coal from strip mines.
Someday I'll post the panoramic stitched photo I took of the #6 largest strip coal mine (Eagle Butte) in the US (World?). Gilette, Wyoming region is where the top Wyoming strip coal mines are located in a cluster.
I recall parking my truck next to a coal train and watching it go by...100+ cars long.
