What's up everyone! From Northern VA

    Hello everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself to everyone since I've just registered with the site. I'm a Planner in Fairfax County, VA (just outside of Washington, DC). I'm fairly new to public sector Planning after spending 2+ years in the private sector.
I'm always interested in learning about issues that other Planners are dealing with and seeing how other Planners are dealing with issues I'm facing (like lack of affordable housing).
I look forward to learning and growing through the discussions on this site.

    Go Nationals!

A warm welcome from NW Ohio, eventually to be from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Post early, post often. Non-planners with a keen interest in all of the planning issues hang around here, too. That would include me.

Welcome from a fellow NoVa planner.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Ben Franklin

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Of course we know a lot, but it is context that's missing, not treasures." - Werner Herzog, in Archaeology, March/April 2011

Welcome from South of the Border... Wyoming border that is...
This is the place where the wind never stops (and lately the rain falls constantly )
You get all squeezed up inside/Like the days were carved in stone/You get all wired up inside/And it's bad to be alone

You can go out, you can take a ride/And when you get out on your own/You get all smoothed out inside/And it's good to be alone

Greetings from another Hoosier. We looked --briefly -- into NoVa last summer and could not believe the cost of housing. Even for mid-level professionals with two kids, there was no way we could afford to do it. And there was no way I wanted the hassle of a lengthy commute.

Thanks for registering and feel free to jump right in.
Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.

How was the switch from private to public? I've considered the same move, but never made the leap.

I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?
