    conservation zoning

I'm working on a project to educate planning commissioners about conservation subdivision design and zoning.

I'm looking for examples of conservation/open space subdivisions in the Midwest (prefer Ohio). I really want middle class development, not the high end ones. If you can tell me the name and where it is. If you have pictures even better.

Does your community have conservation district or section on conservation subdivisions? If so, I'd like to look at the code.

Conservation Subdivision Regs - Check out Chapter 18 of our Code at:

    http://www.ci.muskego.wi.us/municipalcode.htm

At the same site you can view Chapter 17, Zoning, which includes a COPD Conservation Planned Development Overlay District.

This is our Conservation Subdivision Handbook for owners and developers:

    http://www.ci.muskego.wi.us/planning...ntHandbook.pdf

And this is the Conservation Plan that got us to that point:

Bath Township www.bathtownship.org (Summit County, Ohio) has an interesting approach. Conservation Development is permitted and "cookie cutter" development is conditional. Its fairly new and Bath is upper class economically, but it is interesting.

I had read about Firestone Trace and I've looked at the Bath Ordinance.

I was suprised out how detailed it is given the relatively small size of the Township.

Good to see that someone in Ohio is implementing a policy that has attracted development.

There's a long story behind this (as with most things). Email me at trussell@medinaco.org for more.

You might want to talk to folks in Ross County, OH. They have put a lot of effort into writing a plan that includes conservation/open space development provisions. It isn't adopted, yet, but it is an interesting case of trying something progressive in a place where you might not expect it.
