    Hello from Houston!
"We do not need any other Tutankhamun's tomb with all its treasures. We need context. We need understanding. We need knowledge of historical events to tie them together. We don't know much. Welcome from just north of the Alamo City!

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

I don't go to UCF. I actually go to Rollins, about 30 minutes west of the UCF campus. However, I did hear about their green roof, which is pretty exciting. I hope my school will follow suit sometime in the future.

Personally, I think while the campus plan is good, UCF is right in the middle of sprawl-hell, which really takes away from its ambience. Just my opinion though.

UCF doesn't have a planning department, but they do offer a planning certificate in their public administration program.

Are you from "up north"? Seems most Rollins students are, altho' my sister graduated from there. I grew up in Winter Park and loved hanging around Park Ave. as a kid. RichmondJake and I were just down there a couple months ago at the farmer's market.

Welcome from NW Ohio. It's hot and humid here in the land of The Great Lakes. But within a few months we will have snow and cold wind. Florida will just be Florida.

Tara, I hope you find the wit and wisdom displayed by this motley gaggle of planners (or is it a school of planners?) both educating and entertaining. I'm sure that your contributions will add to the think tank that is the Throbbing Brian (Bturk ).

Have fun. Post hard, post often, hassle jenniplans about Missouri roads.

Tara, you may as well get used to having your work ethic halved by joiing this forum. Welcome from westernmost Europe. Hmm, that may be Iceland. Not there.
Budgie, I reckon a group of planners is called an Easement.

Sure, I have been to Rollins. Beautiful campus and area.

Yes UCF is in the middle of sprawlville and it definitively takes away from the ambiance. But there is valid land ‘donation’ reason for its location. My father's good friend grew up in Orlando and remembers going horseback riding out there when it was just scrub.

I understand the land was ‘given’ to the university, state, whatever and then the out parcels (by the same original owner) were held back and developed after the school was built. They original owners gave away that campus land for 'free' and then made a mint of the surrounding land. Bad ‘planning 101’; but good ‘real estate 101’
