Chicago's Eastside sits east of the Lake Calumet industrial district right near the border with Indiana. It stands as the only majority-Hispanic community east of State Street, quite isolated from other Hispanic communities in Chicago and bordered by South Chicago, a majority-black community.
Ewing is the only public-transport entrance into the Eastside (by the #30 South Chicago bus, which was slated to be eliminated in the July 17 service cuts). Those cuts would have left Eastside residents four miles from a bus line.
This place makes a mean Baja-style fish taco. There are only three tables--keep it a secret!
Residential area off 106th St:
Is this Brooklyn or Chicago?
I think you know the answer to that.
The giant industrial complexes to the immediate west are everywhere.
Even 18 miles from State and Madison, it's still pure Chicago.

In certain parts of the Eastside, the street is raised above the lot level.
Avenue F is zoned a little differently from the rest of the neighborhood.
If you walk under the Chicago Skyway, you can walk right into Indiana:
Taken from Illinois.
And back into Illinois:
Taken from Indiana.
Bowling anyone?
