    [IowaAPA] Iowa APA Awards Update

    Greetings Iowa Planners,

As you may have noticed when you received your Iowa APA newsletter this
week, the deadline for submissions to the Iowa APA awards program was
August 1, 2005 and had already passed. Unfortunately the printing
company responsible for the newsletters did not send them in a timely
fashion. Therefore, the deadline for submissions of the awards has been
extended until September 9, 2005. The following is a brief summary of
    the Iowa APA awards program:

The Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association is now accepting
submissions for the 2005 Iowa Awards for Planning. Awards are being
accepted in fifteen planning related categories, including Outstanding
Planning, Public Education, Distinguished Leadership, Distinguished
Service, Outstanding Students and Journalism awards. The deadline for
submission of the awards is now September 9, 2005, with presentation of
the awards at the 2005 Iowa APA Fall Conference scheduled for October
20-21, 2005. Further information on the awards program, including the
Application Form, is attached and is also available at the Iowa APA
    website at www.iowa-apa.org <http://www.iowa-apa.org/> .

As you're thinking about awards, you may also want to consider applying
for a National APA award. Currently, National APA is accepting entries
for their 2006 awards program with the deadline for most categories
being September 15, 2005. Additional information on their award program
is available at their website http://www.planning.org/awards/2006.htm.
The Iowa APA awards are based on the same framework as the national
awards so it should be very easy to make submissions to both the Iowa
    and National chapters.

Due to this printing error, the number of submissions is down
substantially from past years, we hope the additional time will allow
you to consider nominating a person, plan or project for an award.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I
am sending this note to all Iowa APA members and the Iowa APA Yahoo
group; I apologize if you receive multiple copies of the message.

    Thank you,
