Crime prevention through zoning ordinance or building code

Does anyone know any jurisdiction that requires security enhancements either in a zoning ordinance or building code with the goal of crime prevention?

Although I don't know of specific cities that include safety requirements in their zoning ordinances, many communities include CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) principles in their review. The International Building Code requires things like lighting, landings at exits, etc. for safety reasons. It is pretty easy to link safety requirements as conditions to an approval of a project.

    Try some of these:

    Tempe, Arizona
    Durham, NC
    SeaTac, Washington
    Henrico County, Virginia

Just do a Google search of these communities along with CPTED. I'm sure there are many more.
