I'm sure planners out there will have some views on ways to help prevent....or deal with hurricanes, floods, etc. like the tragic ones in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area.
Perhaps some of you are working there, or have worked there.
We keep reading aboout what should have been done and what should be done now.
I remember that the American Society of Planning Officials (which was later merged into APA) had their annual conf. in New Orelans around 1971, and as an ASPO staffer I got to write a lengthy article in Planning Magazine about New Orleans and planning. But I haven't been there much ever since.
Back then, the inequities of poor and rich were noted, and the alternate directions for New Orleans in economic development ----Civilized Decay, or High Tech, or some other path?
What do you all think?
